Rick Perry's fair position on in-state tuition for children of undocumented parents has cost him dearly in the polls. This racism on the part of some GOP voters will be used against whichever candidate wins the nomination - unless Perry comes back and wins it. If the fair-minded GOP voters come to Perry's rescue and he wins the nomination, his fair position could win him many Latino votes and cause him to win the general election.

Racist GOP voters need to wake up and smell the coffee. America is the fourth largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. Within a few years, no candidate is going to be able to win without a good portion of the Latino vote. It is time we forget that some people look different and talk funny.

Has it ever occurred to you that people can view this differently than you and not be racist? As far as I can see you are the one with a obsession of how they look and talk.

Disagree with Shane and you become racist

The issue is all about race. These students' parents live in Texas. They pay Texas sales tax. They pay Texas property tax. They pay Texas gasoline tax. They pay all the same taxes that all other Texans pay. But for some reason their children should not be given in-state tuition rates. Why? Oh!!! That's right. They are a different color and they talk funny. I get it. It's a racist thing. Everyone gets it. Those in denial are the ones not getting elected in November. Rick Perry gets it. If he gets the nomination, he will get a lot of Latino votes come November. It would be nice to see the racists lose - again.

It would be nice to see those that feel they can determine racism on the part of those not agreeing with them quit feeling they have taken the part of God and can judge the heart of another man. I suspect that won't happen as those that believe they can do this seem to have a really hard time getting off the lofty perch.

If I remember right these are children of illegal immigrants.

They are not legal residents no matter what color their skin is.

The cost of college tuition is thru the roof as is the problem of illegal immigration. With one breath we talk of stopping illegal entry and in the other we say"But if you do,this is all the rewards we will give you".The more breaks for some mean higher cost for the other.

Not to long ago you righteously compared it to those not wanting free tuition in our chruch schools.Great idea, every kid should go.Except that put into practise has almost closed the school.

Many parents willing to work the extra job have been left without a school for theirs. At least you can say it is fair.Very few are now going and no one expects it to last..Only those willing to pay a pretty big tuition and willing to send theirs to what amounts to the one room school. The rest have the same choice as those that did not pay.No chruch school for their kids.

What about the students from other countries on student visas. They pay out of state or international. But have parents with illegal status and you get a break

Even our troops that are stationed in Texas taking part time classes because they are not residents pay out state tuition.Yet we keep dangling the rewards for families here illegally

No matter how many times you determine the "racism" of others you do not make it so.

It is possible, altho I believe you think it unlikely that you are not in a position to define racism for others.

They may just disagree with your "learned" position for other reasons than race

They are legal residents of Texas. They are not legal US residents. There is a difference. Those that don't understand the difference need to get educated themselves. Of course, the kids have a different skin color and they talk funny so, why should they be treated like everyone else, even though they pay the same taxes?

I am not sure Perry is the best candidate but I am sure he understands this issue. Perry is no racist.

Legal immigrants have different skin color and talk funny,so what? Those that are US citizens regardless of how they talk or look should have the same benefits of US citizens born here.

Again, come off your lofty perch. You are not in a position to know that any that disagree with you do so because of racist views.

Certainly can make some sound very righteous tho

I'm just saying, those heartless Republicans that once supported Perry but no longer support him because of their fear-fueled hatred of immigrants need to wise up. The US is the fourth-largest Spanish speaking country in the world. Those GOP racists should probably take a few Spanish classes and then maybe they could learn to love their neighbor.

I know exactly what you are saying. So big deal Perry is losing support. The world doesn't know because you support him everyone else has to as well.

Can't see why anyone needs to learn Spanish in the US unless they choose to.What has that got to do with anything?

Maybe you best get busy and learn the language of all immigrants, legal or illegal in this country.Or are only a certain few so privileged?

Again you have no idea of who does and who does not love their neighbor. Perhaps you first have to learn to love those that disagree with you instead of calling them names.

AS hard as you strive to be you will never be the first and final word as to who is racist because they dare to disagree with you.

Actually I like Romney, Cain and Perry and even a couple of the others. I don't have a favorite.

I feel the same way. I'm certain that one of these three will be the Republican candidate. I lean toward Cain or Romney.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I don't think either Romney or Cain are racists either. Romney obviously doesn't understand the in-state tuition issue. He thinks the state is subsidizing the in-state students which is probably how Massachusetts does it but not how Texas does it. In Texas, state residents get a discount. The difference between in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition is not picked up by the state. It is like going to Denny's and getting a senior discount. The young couple behind the retirees do not pay 15% more so that the retired couple can get their discount. At least not in a direct sense. In order to be a legal resident of Texas, one has to live here for three years. As long as a person meets that criteria, the state university system doesn't care where the person came from beit Mexico, Wisconsin or Ireland.

I need to learn Spanish. A large part of my local community is Spanish speaking. When we go door knocking there are so many people who I can't communicate with and that's a problem.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

I think that would be great.Doesn't have anything to do with immigrants refusing to learn english to be better qualified for employment or medical care, anywhere cummunication is necessary.

When I was working we had a variety of employee's that had a different native language. It was not up to the business to learn each one,nor should the customers be required to do so.

Those that refused to learn because they shouldn't be asked to

never moved from the part time position they held

People that learn English can earn more money. No doubt. But many immigrants are already earning more money than they did back home and they are happy. They feel no need to learn English. If the economic incentive to learn English isn't enough for them, they shouldn't have to learn it.
