Administrators Gail Posted October 19, 2011 Administrators Posted October 19, 2011 65 or older! I heard Neil Nedley say that just now. The most unhappy age for married men is 18-29. He also said that average single woman is happier than the average married woman. Hmmm.... Dottie Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I wouldn't know about that, I've been married too long, and wasn't single long enough! Quote

It is of interest to me that touch is one sense that most people really like....and that we do so little of....a reassuring hand on the arm....a gentle hug.... Perhaps, we, as a people, would not be so starved for affection if we were able to give those assurances in appropriate ways...and perhaps there would be less unhappyness.... Neil D Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 with a 50% divorce rate for first time marriages, and even greater rate for second marriages....I can only speak for myself...and advocate that being happy doesn't necessarily mean sex... what most people want is to be known, and to know others....What that means to each is prolly different for each individual. Administrators Gail Posted October 21, 2011 Author Administrators Posted October 21, 2011 Have you got any idea as to why the statistics came out the way they did? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Agree with your thoughts H-B.....I realised how much I had missed being touched.....touch without any sexual overtones or intent.....some time after I was back in a tactile sort of situation. Good to hug our friends. And I am happier married than single. Maybe I am not average Quote

Nich Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Not yet married, but I hope that it will grow sweeter as years add on, hence logically, the earlier years will be the least while the latter will be the most, not that the earlier were unhappy, but that the happiness grew. Quote Trust and obey, Happy in Jesus
GreatLakesGramma Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Often, the early years are difficult because of both partners dealing with issues carried from their childhood. That was certainly the case with my husband and me. We both grew up with abuse, rejection, and poor social skills. It took many years to work through those things and come to the place of leaving behind unrealistic expectations, recognizing communication differences that led to some serious misunderstandings, and truly understanding each other. After 32 years, I think we're finally getting there. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Moderators LynnDel Posted October 22, 2011 Moderators Posted October 22, 2011 How many of these 65-year old men are in their first marriage? Those who are have probably come to the realization of how blessed they are. Those who aren't probably realize how lucky they are to have found love a second time. Quote LD
Gordon1 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Unfortunately, many view these gender studies as definitive, whereas they rarely, if ever, reflect God's position. Which is a shame, as He is the originator of marriage, bestowing upon it a sanctity and hedge of protection with statutes and laws. And, offering it as a type (foreshadow) of the Reconciliation of Christ's Church, the believer's hope. The Bride & The BrideGroom. If we continue to use the world's standard for marriage, then we can expect the same statistics of discord & divorce. For this reason EGW said that God does not approve of 1 marriage in 100, even 1 in 200 - and this was in a more sober time. Imagine today. ....Think about it logically...God wants happiness and order for His people...marriage was designed to preserve and improve our condition - but we have turned aside from the BluePrint and so reap the consequences. And pass these along to our children. Quote
Gordon1 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 When a woman announces her engagement, the standard reaction is words of congratulation and glee from her peers. (Let's not say friends just yet). Why celebration? Most women today know their gent is no knight in shining armor. Ten grand, a tux, limo & week in the sun won't improve the man. Just increase their debt and false expectations. True friends will warn of the heartache and dirty socks which imprison many. Modern secular 'marriage' is not God's design. Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted October 22, 2011 Moderators Posted October 22, 2011 I don't know about the "true friends" part. If I had had such "friends," they would have been totally wrong. They celebrated with me because I was happy that a godly man and I had found each other. Oh yes, there were dirty socks for me to take care of, but it was not a big burden. Heartache? No. God was with us from before our birth, when we met, through our marriage, and even now. LD Quote LD
Gordon1 Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Yes, if God is there, you are secure. A happy exception, to be sure - but not what these stats are based upon. Quote
Paula Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Lol.... wonder how many of these 65 year olds are married to 20 year olds.. And I wonder how many of the women who are happier single are the 20 year olds who are married to 60 year olds!! lol.. jk The early years of marriage are always the hardest.. but as a woman I can say I much rather be married than single. I guess in a Godly marriage one finds contentment even though there are always going to be difficulties!!! Quote

olger Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I'm not sure that I concur with this statement by Neil (though I have much respect for him). Single people have a higher depression rate than married people National Institute of Mental Health: “Depression: Treat it. Defeat it.” Accessed June 1999. I don't know about 65-year olds, but I do know that when married couples resolve their issues and connect emotionally, their depression goes away. rejoice always, g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

He also said that average single woman is happier than the average married woman. Hmmm.... Interesting study. However, I found that God is happiness, peace and contentment. That all this other stuff (hugs, touch, sex, etc.) while OK and pleasurable can never give the lasting need the human needs. Only God can make His pleasure, happiness, peace, contentment, etc. last and last forever. I am not saying we should stop doing the hugs, the touching, the sex etc. but if we bank our lasting happiness on getting these things we are in for disappointment. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted October 26, 2011 Author Administrators Posted October 26, 2011 It's interesting that, according to this, men are happiest at an age where virility and physical stamina are at an ebb. miz3 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 It's interesting that, according to this, men are happiest at an age where virility and physical stamina are at an ebb. Yes, I noticed that too. Maybe men are happiest when they don't have to continually feed there sexual desires and/or be frustrated by them. Quote
Gordon1 Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 65 or older! The most unhappy age for married men is 18-29. He also said the average single woman is happier than the average married woman. The marriage stats aren't new or surprising. Over 65, pressure to compete in an ugly world is greatly reduced. 18-29 is too young for most men, already dealing with intense educational, career & financial decisions. Few are adequately mature at this age. Even if the couple lasts (50/50?), there's often a heavy price paid by all, esp. the most vulnerable - kids & wife. So while single women may not be thrilled about their status, they're happier then many married women who said "I do" too soon and now face a dysfunctional union along with children. God never intended His Adam & Eve Plan to engender such strife. The stats will be different for those who are heeding all the counsel before us - which is considerable. If two are unequally yoked, there will be trouble, and perhaps eternal loss. This need not be. Unfortunately there is little positive pre-marital training within the church. So sad when the consequences linger for generations. Quote
