mrsducky Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Sometimes on has to put on abrasion resistant clothing! I think that we do a fairly good job of presenting the Gospel but we have trouble relating to each other in postitive ways sometimes. Quote
Neil D Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Being a bit sensitive, aren't we, Mrsducky? Are you trying to say that we don't know enough about relationships??? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Moderators LynnDel Posted October 22, 2011 Moderators Posted October 22, 2011 To me: It's part of my identity. To my neighbor: They're those people who know about health. To my kids: Poor Mom, she tried so hard to keep us in the church... Quote LD
Parade Orange Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 HAMILTON-BEACH GBU its my experience that many SDA's look each over shoulders to make sure that each other is doing right or will become a missionary project or a castaway! do we have trouble with relational aspects? if we think of each other as either parent or child among peers to lord over each other to scrutinize and file, rank and sort each other like we are cataloguing each other then no but to be TRANSPARENT to each other in connection based on love and WHAT JESUS has done for us on the CROSS and to acceppt each other that forms trust and accountability and healing and GROWTH so together we can stand on the LAST DAY then YES! and that comment about being too sensitive to DUCKY? is that your relational approach? u r showing the strains that DUCKY is reflecting on Quote All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.
Moderators LynnDel Posted October 22, 2011 Moderators Posted October 22, 2011 I am so blessed that my current church family is loving, caring, and noncritical - at least as far as I know! I would wish the same for everyone in their church affiliation. There is no lording or scrutinizing or looking over the shoulder -though I did hear once a comment that someone thought I was playing solitaire on my phone during church when what I was really doing was taking sermon notes! I thought that was funny. Quote LD
Parade Orange Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 LYNN im glad u have a great church!' i know they exist i hear about it from others here and thats interesting about the solataire phone thing there are lots of apps and that person thought of that! says more about them than u assume the worst in others! scary person i should know Quote All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. dwplbaker Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Last week during devine worship we received the strong works based end time sermon of "we better get ready" because Jesus is coming soon. Yes he is ; PRAISE GOD!!!!. This sermon featured: EGW quote about less than two in twenty will make it through to our heavenly home. We had about 40 present for the service. Therefore that means less than 4 (3 ?) will be saved. Out of the forty in attendance would it be safe to say Pastor and his wife would be two of them? Maybe the Head Elder would be the third. So why are the rest of us hanging around? We thirty seven just learned we have no chance of making it. Leadership in our local church strongly pushes this works based theology. Seems they desire to discourage the membership and thereby point to their own self righteousness. Leadership (and membership) have a judgemental attitude combined with a self righteous spirit. Could this be the main reason our worldwide membership is not keeping pace with world population growth? Sermon also mentioned that we need to so perfect our own characters so that we will be able to stand when God's spirit is withdrawn from us in end time. We teach that we have to be able to refrain from sinning before the close of probation WITHOUT Jesus as our Saviour? Where does this false teaching come from? All SDA's who have grown up in the church need to read and digest SURE SALVATION by Phillip Dunhan. Excellent teaching on relationship between grace and law. David from Florida Quote
TheElebert Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 The quote does not say 2 in every group of 20 will be lost.In another place she says whole congregations will be lost, this also means that in some places whole congregations will be saved. And she explains why. Because those that are lost did not have a corresponding faith to go with God's grace. We all know that Faith without works is dead. All that this is saying is if we do not wake up and do the work that God asked us to do, we will have to answer for the neglected work. Sister white also says that some who once stood for the truth will become its bitterest enemy We are not saved by our works but we work because we are saved. The first work is to overcome sin and the second is to share the gospel so that others can be saved too. Christ left heaven to save us, why can't we leave our homes to bring others to that same joy? Is the mind of Christ in us? The Face of Adventism should be Christ in us the hope of all glory. And as we consider the sermon on the mount, we should be doing everything within our reach to work with God in finishing his work. We should truly be laying up treasures in heaven coz when the money finally fails only heaven can help us make it through the crisis. God is a fair employer, it matters not at what time you enter the work as long as you finish it, you will get what is just. Adventism was born on missions, beginning with the apostles all the way up to the waldenses and finally the early adventist movement. The sons and daughters of God gave up their lives that this day we still have the frame work to finish God's work in truth and verity. In the schoolmaster, the sanctuary God showed us how the judgement works. In the example, when the high priest finished his ministration, anyone who had sins that were not taken care of in the atonement was cutoff(they perished). Are we to wait till Christ our high priest comes back to stop sinning? is that what Christ taught? Read also revelation 22. Also consider these verses from Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works Quote
mrsducky Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Maybe I am a little sensitive--maybe. Sometimes I go to church on Sabbath morning with a sense of dread. I guess if I can survive in my church. . . . Many years ago a friend of mine said that the reason we Adventists can be abrasive sometimes is because "we are family". It always seemed to me that as family members we ought to be nicer and safer than those who are not family. Quote
