Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 One of the recurring themes on this forum is the secularised liberal propoganda that insists that we should adopt ideologies that come from the world and not the word of God. But the Bible explicitly warns us against accepting this over and over. In the Bible, the term "secular" is not used. But another word is used: "world" Quote: 1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Now if the apostles were alive today, they would have warned us against accepting these secular ideas such as: Approving homosexual relations. Removing the Priesthood of men in the home and church. The theory of Evolution. The idea that there are no "absolute truths" etc... So when reading the scripture and considering whether it deals with this attempted secularisaion of the church, we just need to seek those texts that talk about conformity to the "world" and we will have all the counsel we need. Secularism attacks the Bible, attacks Christianity and attacks Seventh Day Adventists beliefs. So I thought we could discuss this issue and how to meet the secular agenda being promoted by a noisy minority (hopefully) within the church... Quote
Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 It seems that there are two lines of attack on the Church. 1. Paganism. 2. Secularism. Now most Adventists are very aware and sensitive to paganism. But how many of us have educated ourselves to be aware of the attacks and inroads of secularism on our church? You see it everywhere once you start looking. And I wonder if many even know they have indeed imbibed secularism and are promoting this message in the Church? I would hope not... Quote: Jam 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Quote
Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 One of the most common methods of debate used by those promoting secular ideas, is to use accusations taken directly from secular sources. A recent and on-going example is this idea that the order set in Eden about Men and Women and their roles in the home and church is some type of "bigotry". I have noticed that insisting Gods order be maintained, is met with this argument by secular sources. And now is being adopted by many Christians. Same argument. So it is important to watch out for this type of "secularisation" of arguments that oppose Gods order. Another example is the desire to make homosexuality acceptable for Christians. The arguments again rest on secular roots and ideologies. I think this is a much bigger danger to the SDA church than paganism, inasmuch that this is inside the church already, trying to eat it away. Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 One of the biggest problems we have is that we are being educated with a secular "Greek" education. And we have now come to the point where it seems we struggle to seperate ourselves from this brain washing. So much so, that a clear biblical argument cannot be received by some. Quote
Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 A secularised mind does something very interesting. It approaches the Bible with a secular idea. It finds one text that it deems fits that idea the closest. It then denies, ignores or downplays all the other texts that are much clearer on the subject in favour of its proof text. This is how we come to the position of some insisting Female Pastors are acceptable in the church. It wants to find one hook in the Bible upon which to hang its ideas. Then it proceeds to ignore anything to the contrary. Why? Because it wants to be in agreement with the World. This is how the early Church fell. That time however it was "paganism" that led the attack. These days it is "secularism". Quote
Twilight II Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 And there is only one solution to all of this. A total reliance on Gods Word and the leading of the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Only that can cure a secularised mind. And I suspect we are all tainted in one way shape or form. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted October 31, 2011 Moderators Posted October 31, 2011 ....Now if the apostles were alive today, they would have warned us against accepting these secular ideas such as: Approving homosexual relations. Removing the Priesthood of men in the home and church. The theory of Evolution. The idea that there are no "absolute truths" etc... I would like to add a few: 1) There's no literal sanctuary in heaven 2) Ellen White's writings are not really authoritative and have nothing to do with the Spirit of prophecy described in Revelation. 3) The SDA Church is not the Remnant church. 4) Some parts of the Bible are more inspired than others. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Twilight II Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 I think what is interesting John317, is when you consider "normal" secular attacks on Christianity from secular sources and when you compare them to some of the "liberal" arguments within the Church, they are practically identical. So a simple way to recognise a secularised argument is to look at the worlds arguments. Quote

Twilight II Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 There is truth in all false systems. But the system has to be recognised for what it is. And secularism is a direct attack on Gods authority. Quote
