olger Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 The kTM 300 is ready for spring !! Just bought 6-new spark plugs. GC, it was definitely conceived there and now lives here !! :) (I think it was born in Texas, tho). Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

ClubV12 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 I picked up an all original Honda CRX HF the other day, an old 1986 model with a blown motor. The HF was the extreme mpg model, over 50 mpg (0-60 mph in about a month...). I'm modifying the motor while I'm doing the rebuild for even more mpg (custom intact, carb mods, timing and cam settings). Then stripping off inside and out everything I can to reduce the 1,700 pound weight and aero drag even more. Just a fun little extreme mileage car to play with. I expect to get in excess of 60 mpg. Prius, eat your heart out. My last car I played with got 6 mpg and had 667 horse power (0-60 mph in about 3 seconds). My how things have changed around my house. The Honda XR650 is put away for the winter.... Quote
olger Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 I recently got this Honda XR-400: And the "R" stands for: resplendent! Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

nuff sed Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 What are the possiblilities of taking a 'Smart Car' with a blown motor and installing a Kubota Diesel engine??? Nuff Sed Quote
ClubV12 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 That just might work Nuff Sed. One other car I considered when I set out to do an extreme mileage vehicle was an older VW diesel. "Older" because I don't care to invest a lot on money in anything, just tinkering around, trying to stay active in my retirement. I picked up the Honda for $200, doing the engine rebuild myself and scrounging for parts. The goal is to see just how low dollar I can keep the end result. The car itself looks pretty good, except for the interior, which I plan to gut anway. No carpet, no radio, no spare or jack, decrease the weight to extreme levels, tall skinny tires for higher gearing and lower rolling resistance. Quote
ClubV12 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 By the way, I didn't mean to steal Olgers thunder and I share his joy in the new Honda he picked up! I have a hunch, the Honda I just picked will not be nearly as comfortable, no A/C, radio delete and all that. Could be downright brutle. Quote
Guest Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Tall skinny tires eh? Hmmm, I'm gettin ready to buy some new tires for my little Ford Escort ZX2. It already gets 33 mpg. Quote
ClubV12 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Ask about low rolling resistance tires, and pump 'em up to max pressure. Bear in mind the trade off with skinny tires is handling and traction, running max pressure could accellerate wear. It may be, the best overall tire is the size and specs the manufacturer recommends for the car. For MY project, I'll make that decision, throw the "specs" out and take my chances. ...don't forget to remove the passenger side rear view mirror for better aero effect. :) Quote
olger Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 I like the idea of a Kubota diesel, Don. Might need some quiet-barrier sound mat under the hood and firewall, but the economy should be great. How's things in Florida? Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
nuff sed Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Olger, that idea has been bumping around in my head for quite some time. I do not know what the ramifications concerning transmission would be. Things are great in Florida.. Cool and quiet. I go for hip replacement on Tuesday and hope that recovery time will not keep me 'down' too long... I tried to send this PM but it said that you were "full-up".. Regards, Nuff Quote
Administrators Gail Posted November 6, 2011 Administrators Posted November 6, 2011 Nuff sed, can you take your computer with you to your hospital bed? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Dottie Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 If he's going to the hospital I was in last, there is a large tv/computer on the wall, with a multi-function remote keyboard. :) Quote
