bonnie Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Hmm... What is the definition of social progress Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Members phkrause Posted November 7, 2011 Members Posted November 7, 2011 Excellent statement and this coming from a true conservative. I think I'll add this to my signature. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

bonnie Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Bonnie -- I also think that sometimes it is better to define the words we use before making a blanket statement. It would be nice but no one seems to be able to answer just what social progress is. Another way of saying social justice? What is that Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The US has made a lot of social progress since WW2. I know there are some groups that want to turn the clock back to the days when the elites stayed elite and the peasants stayed as peasants but I don't see that happening. People like that are becoming a smaller and smaller minority and few people are taking them serious any more. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... bonnie Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The US has made a lot of social progress since WW2. I know there are some groups that want to turn the clock back to the days when the elites stayed elite and the peasants stayed as peasants but I don't see that happening. People like that are becoming a smaller and smaller minority and few people are taking them serious any more. No one has expressed any desire to turn the clock back to the days when the elites stayed elite and the peasants stayed as peasants. Many of us would like to see a return to some personal responsibility and self reliance. To stop viewing a portion of the property/rights of another theirs because of economic circumstances, education, gender, skin color. There is no moral right to be cared for by others while not doing everything you can to do as much as you can for yourself. What God has instructed those with means to give/provide/donate is not for others to dictate and take by force.Nor is it up to others to decide when they have given enough. Those requiring help should be helped on a temporary basis while requiring efforts on their part to help themselves. They should not be fed, clothed, educated for years unless there is physical or mental/emotional impairment. This country should have and does provide a safety net, but that has become a hammock for many. Once we went beyond the temporary aid to help in emergency situations we started down a slippery slope where everything is a right, except the right of those with more means to determine how best to use it. Rights are manufactured by the government on a regular basis,to the point now "free cell service" for the poor is a right.Free diapers seems to be close to becoming reality. What is "given" free is rarely appreciated in value,it only increases the demand for "free". The "free lunch" does not exist, government has nothing to give "free" except what it takes from someone else. Higher and higher taxes really doesn't hurt the mega wealthy, simply irritates them.It doesn't do a whole lot of damage to those on welfare.Their food, medical, housing is a "free gift" It does hurt all segments of the middle class, those are the ones that continue to work, will work two and three jobs just to try and break even.
