bonnie Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Many of the politicians are lawyers. They write the laws. This SSI problem is one that has been completely created by the lawyers. I don't blame the poverty-stricken soul looking for a little extra help. Whether a politician has been a lawyer,a ditch digger or whatever,the laws are written by politicians.I am not forced to take advantage of any that I do not choose to. I don't blame those that thru no fault of their own that need help.We should as a humanitarian effort be willing to help those in true need.Poverty in this country generally does not mean what it means in third world countries.It means large screen TV's,computers,fast food, and free medical Poverty here is elevated by many for their own purposes as a special class of people.Some get blindsided by life and help should be given willingly. For those that view poverty as a excuse never to elevate beyond that and a chance to game the system,it is theft pure and simple. Some condone that for their own reasons,whether it is to buy votes,power,or even worse to spout christian phrases to sound christian , encouraging and promoting that behavior. I am thankful that no one of that mentality had influence on my siblings and I at a vulnerable age.No one of that mentality would have ever been allowed to influence our sons. I am thankful my parents taught us that we were and always would be responsible for our own actions,that the day would come,no excuses,when we had to give an accounting to someone far wiser than you. For those always looking for someone else to blame it will come as a shock,when they hear the same as the servant with the one talent. Welfare really is an indirect stimulus to corporations. This is a great country and on this day of Thanksgiving I must say one thing for sure... Thank God of the government. Thank God for welfare. Thank God for food stamps. Thank God for student loans and educational grants. No. I am not so judgmental that I would say that. American history is filled with honorable men and women that lived their entire lives in poverty. They would God-fearing and hard working men and women. The era of big government launched the middle class we have today. It really wasn't until after WW2 and the GI Bill that we saw the American dream become reachable be everyone. So if you are an American and eat some turkey or tofu today, praise God we live in the land of big government where our poor are taken care of and given great opportunities. If you are able bodied,have a strong work ethic and determination to succeed you will barring unforseen,unavoidable circumstances.Of course it is easier to say "I can't" and use poverty as an excuse. You are the one that equates poverty with failure.I don't.Of course many live their life in poverty and have done good things.Generally that is accomplished without the welfare mentality. If I am the one with the problem, that means I am the one with the power to change it. I love power, although I can be dangerous when I have too much. So let's set this record straight. I have no problem with the insignificant amount of federal spending that is spent on the poor and handicap. I am very compassionate. My only concern is that we do not trap the poor in poverty. And we don't. The poor have access to educational opportunities. The American system is very good. It isn't perfect but we are not going to get perfect in this sin-cursed world. God bless America!
