Administrators Gail Posted November 29, 2011 Administrators Posted November 29, 2011 What does it mean to "afflict your soul"? What is the purpose? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
12tribes Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Leviticus 16:31 (31) It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. Genesis 16:9 (9) And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. The words highlighted 'submit thyself' is translated from the same word that afflict is in Leviticus 16:31 Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Administrators Gail Posted December 4, 2011 Author Administrators Posted December 4, 2011 Does that fit with the Day of Atonement afflicting? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
12tribes Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 We need to submit ourselves to God Ezra 8:21 (21) Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
