BibleOnly Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I'm sorry, the first three verses are already ridiculous. Prophecy means to preach the Gospel ? Paul is quoting the Corinthians without saying so ? My favourite bit is where Paul says 'I wish you all spoke in tongues' and the 'exegesis' is that Paul can't be saying that, because we know that not everyone speaks in tongues, so he must be using sarcasm or something. In fact, it becomes clear through 1 Cor 14 that all COULD speak in tongues, he even says they all can. I'm sorry, I was willing to spend some time on this, but it's just not worth it. Not if the starting point is 'Paul didn't mean what he said, he must have been quoting the Corinthians'.

BibleOnly Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 OK, I read the second one. I love the chain of 'Paul does not agree with this statement', it's amazing. So, how do I tell what of Paul's statements are true, and which are lies ? I wish I could quote the text, I guess this is scanned from some article. It's really not terrible 'heavy', it's mostly light weight and wrong. I love how the author states that tongues were used wrongly in two ways, the incorrect use of the right gift and the use of the wrong gift. Paul never says there are two types of tongues, nor does he explain where 'wrong tongues' come from. But I like that someone here has told me they only used 'wrong tongues' telling me that in every case, we're dealing with people trying to twist Paul to their reality, not reading what he says. I love how the 'exegesis' is adding the idea that tongues are used to preach to people from other lands. The Bible does not say this. So much that is important was skipped or glossed over. This was not terrible deep or well thought out, just a verse by verse attack on what the Bible actually says. Of course, it was not meant that way, but someone who does not speak in tongues, set out to prove they don't have to, and found what they wanted. The Bible does not support the ideas presented here, they often contradict or at least add to the verses being presented to twist them to the desired meaning. This was obviously posted in response to my posts on the topic, so I felt honour bound to look. I am sorry, I didn't expect to agree with it, but I did not expect it to be so shallow and to flat out contradict Paul. Although, that's really all you can do, it try to use 1 Cor 14 to justify the idea of 'false tongues' or tongues being natural languages, etc.

Feel free to interpret my attempts at integrity any way that suits your own personal needs and beliefs "BibleOnly is right and over 8 million Seventh-day Adventists all over the world are wrong. . ." Yes, I agree. The fact there's lots of SDA proves you are right. Aren't there more than 8 million Catholics ? What about Muslims ? I agree, God should agree with whatever the majority of humans decide and not the Bible. So, best we both get turbans and head for Mecca. See, you're not the only one capable of sarcasm....
