The only thing more frustrating that the personal attacks directed at me by people who claim to value the fruits of the Spirit more than I do, is the fact that they always get one more round of abuse in before the thread is locked so I can't reply. On that basis, I think I would prefer not to play, the balance of power is always against me, and those who don't care what the Bible says, always get the last word. All I can take solace in is that their word is rarely about scripture and always about personal attacks, thus showing the nature of their fruit.

I believe I am paying to be here, how do I cancel my subscription ? I've got what I came for, an idea of how the SDA justifies it's beliefs, and a confirmation that I don't agree with the non Biblical ways they come to do so. I've also been drawn in to presenting the Gospel, which has been roundly rejected, so I think it best if I shake the dust off my feet.

Pfffftttt, like your the only around here to experience it. Get used to it, it aint going away anytime soon.

I already shook the dust of my feet on that whole gibberish tongues think. I think I need a shower to follow up! :)

Yeah, BibleOnly,

Stick around. That tactic you mentioned is normal. It is not Biblical or Christian, but it is normal. So often certain people just want to get their way, and they have the "connections" to do it. LOL

What a small realm of influence they have. SMH

These days, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is more about conforming, not reforming. It is sad to say, but it's true. So, give us some more of that Bible Only insight.

Ditto. Those who have the gold make the rules on this forum. How many time have you had your post edited by those who make the rules?

Some might call this tactic "Book Burning", but then it's their site, not mine.

Personally, I enjoyed all of your posts Gibs and BO! No, I didn't agree with much of it, but I did enjoy reading them.

You're welcome to reject the Gospel, that's fine. And personal attacks from insecure people on web forums are nothing new, either. I even get why the threads get locked. But, because I am not the one who is abusive, the 'last word' is always an attack on me and on the Gospel. I am just tired of that.

Perhaps I just need to trust that what I've said stands, and that I don't need to respond with people attack me. I just like to show that I have an answer, or rather that the Bible does. That is integrity to me, something the people attacking me seem to lack. My impression is that the backbone of the SDA is mostly social in nature, with most people I've spoken to ( outside this forum ) essentially happy to have a nice group of friends, and to believe they follow the Bible because they were told so, but they don't seem to understand or know it. I suspect it's no different to the Catholic Church except the day it meets.

You make an excellent point about SDA's being social. That is one of the problems today, SDA's are much more about being social than Biblical.

But, there are still a lot of SDA's who know their Bibles well and we would still like your input.

Personal Attacks??? Slams, belittling remarks, accusations, snide remarks, etc. BibleOnly is as pure as the driven snow. These are from one forum topic only. Should we look at others?

BibleOnly Quotes from the Acts 8 Topic below:

BibleOnly Response to Cheddar:

I quote the Bible more than anyone who speaks to me here, so I am not sure what you mean ?

BibleOnly Response to Cheddar:

All of this is an invention, not based on the Bible.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D. :

I only scanned this because I perceive you're quoting SDA writings as scripture again

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D. :

It's just vague waffle that says some important things, but seems to deliberately avoid others. In fact, I have some SDA writings here, and this strikes me as the same.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D. :

Not necessarily untrue, but still a lot of made up stories

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

Looks to me like you've not even read the verses properly. You're really struggling here, sorry.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

I'm sure you will, because you're allowed to use 'logic' to attack God's word, but I am not allowed to use it to refute the stories you make up

BibleOnly Response to John317:

This is never true in the Bible.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

Again, using logic to add to/contradict scripture

BibleOnly Response to Tom Wetmore:

These stories are always 'a friend of a friend of a friend' and they cannot change what the Bible says.

BibleOnly Response to Tom Wetmore:

Well, I can see that being an obvious view for someone who has contact with the Bible, but has had it explained to them incorrectly.

Q.E.D’s Statement:

No. I know I have the Spirit because I was baptised in the name of the Holy Spirit.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

I just wish you'd stop making up stories and refer to scripture.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

So you know you have the Spirit because you don't have the manifestation of the Spirit ? Neither does my dog, do you think he has the Holy Spirit ?

BibleOnly Response to Tom Wetmore and PKrouse:

Your interpretation makes that whole chapter a nonsense.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

It's clear to me that you have no respect for the Word of God, being happy to abuse it for the sake of trying to string me along.

BibleOnly Response to Q.E.D.:

Once again you use logic to contradict the Bible.

I agree - that would be frustrating.

BibleOnly,

We most certainly welcome you here, don't get us wrong. Do know however, that, so far, I have noticed that you have not shown any satisfaction with one single Bible answer anyone has given to you in this forum. It leaves us to wonder if you're really here to dialogue and learn, or if you are here to get a fling over smearing SDA beliefs. You have a right to disagree.

And by the way, you do not need to pay to post, nor do you need to pay to reply. At least I haven't paid yet, but I plan to. It's nice to have the extra features of uploading your own images, and have an endless quota in your inbox, etc. I'm sure there are a few other privileges, but not sure what those are off the top of my head.

BibleOnly,

Sticks and stones may break our bones but tart words on the computer screen in this case cannot touch us. I've developed a ducks back for it as all reformers must. You are a reformer in your own right or write so for heavens sake don't let some oposition stop you that can't touch you.

No reformer was ever liked and all the disciples were martyred except John. As long as I am of the Truth of His Holy Word He is beside me and with me and I fear not their faces or their words.

Check out Texe Marrs Ministry a little, he really gets the flack and I hear him a lot because he has something to offer on base with the true Word of God.

A true one among SDA's is Walter Veith and he is on base a lot more than most but many SDA's don't care for his ministry, but he is not dampened by them. No we can't let opposition dampen the spirit of truth, continue to declare it.

I see you as a Bro. In Jesus Christ. His Blessings to you.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I found I could not post until I subscribed. I wonder why ?

Anyhow, I always respond to points from the Bible by asking if the explanation given causes other Bible verses to contradict the reading given. I think that is a valid response. If you or others were to provide a reading that is consistent with all the Bible, then I would gladly follow it.

BibleOnly Quotes from the Acts 8 Topic below:

I am fascinated by a couple of things here,

1 - the fact you'd bother to compile this list

2 - the fact that you'd quote it out of all context

3 - the fact that you'd quote things that are clearly either statements of fact, or lies, but either way, not personal attacks.

I never claimed to be perfect, I know when people attack me, I can become more curt in my replies, something I try to control. I'm not sure how you think you've made any sort of point here. If someone contradicts the Bible, and I show how they did, from the Bible, that to me is discussion, not a personal attack. If you feel otherwise, why are you here ?

Just be sure that your "scientific reasoning" is actually not "gnarled reasoning". If you steer away from the simplicity of the text, and try to dissect the text too much, you can eventually, if you're not careful, make the text say anything you want it to.

*grin* yes, I believe you've proven that, esp with 1 Cor 12-14. I believe it to mean what it plainly says, with no convoluted word games that require a Greek scholar to understand it.

But, I don't see any value in such personal sniping, as I've repeatedly said.

>>If you steer away from the simplicity of the text, and try to dissect the text too much, you can eventually, if you're not careful, make the text say anything you want it to.<<

However..., every jot and tittle – as it were.

Without thorough "dissection" of a text, one should never apprehend the emphatic double negative of Jesus Christ's statement to Martha before calling forth Lazarus from the tomb.

Jn 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Shall never, NOT EVER... There is probably a pretty significant point of doctrine in THAT particular 'emphatic double negative'.

Posted

And it's also incredibly clear, from the English translation. What is your point ? I agree with Him, by the way, if you believe in Him, that is, in what He said and stood for and did, and act on that belief, you will never die.

Posted

>>And it's also incredibly clear, from the English translation.<<

The English translation does not reveal that “never” actually derives from the Greek

oume ice aion with ou meaning not, me meaning never; that is, a double negative.

>>What is your point ?<<

I explained the point in my post.

Quote:
Without thorough "dissection" of a text, one should never apprehend the emphatic double negative of Jesus Christ's statement to Martha...

It is an emphatic.

>>I agree with Him, by the way, if you believe in Him, that is, in what He said and stood for and did, and act on that belief, you will never die.<<

What sense of meaning do you attribute to the clause “you will never die”?

Posted

You're saying this means you will 'not never die', that is, that you will die ? What do you think this means ?
