Can you ID this Flower?

I took this picture here in Oregon.

Anyone Know the name of this flower?

I believe it is the passion flower. They make tropical perfume with it. It has several points that are supposed to represent Christ and the disciples and the crucifixion.

I should explain here that this flower has more to do with 'death' and 'decay' than it does with life, romance and passion.

Any ideas?

My first thought was a cinqfoil, because it has 5 petals, but that doesn't sound right, either.

As far as passion flower goes, I thought that a passion flower was a clematis, hence a climbing vine. This one looks like just a stem out of the ground.

Passion fruit flowers come in several colours, this is the commonest in these parts.

As an aside, it used to amuse us of more British/Oz background watching those of the US persuasion trying to pick passionfruit seeds out of fruit salad . Still one of my favourite fruit flavours but perhaps less well known in parts of the Top Bunk.

And sorry, I have no idea what the original flower is.

Are you talking about the picture I just posted or the original HB? Mine was just lifted from a Google search, but is typical of flowers on cultivated passionfruit vines in this part of the country.

I took the picture on the Southern Oregon Coast.

The answer IS :

Darlingtonia

It is a carnivorous plant. It eats insects. It draws them into the plant with it’s smell and once in they get trapped by hairs that point out and prevent them from heading out and the insect ends up sliding down the hole into a pit. And then some enzymes help the plant digest them. But these insects die a painful death. They can be stuck down there in the pit for some time. It’s literally “the pits”. The flower is just the flower of the plant. The part of the plant that eats the insects is rather ugly. I’ve gone over there to the coast many times and only ONE time could I find the flower in somewhat of a blossom. Usually you can only just see a closed bud.

My husband & I went for a Sabbath afternoon walk in the nearby nature reserve (Lysterfield Park) and saw a native Australian passionflower which looked like this:

(Passiflora cinnabarina).

And lots of kangaroos. Especially babies. It has been a good winter/spring with lots of rainfall, the grass is long and lush and the 'roos have been making lots of babies.

I believe that you will find a park with those plants just north of Florence, Oregon...But I have never seen those flowers on any of them as they were never in bloom...
