Overaged Posted December 31, 2011 Author Posted December 31, 2011 Comparing scripture with scripture; a number of other texts come up, mentioning an "open door." One is Col 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: It makes sense that in Rev 3:8 then, that the door being referred to is a door for preaching the gospel of Christ, within and from the church context. A "door" is a portal or entrance (the opening or the closure, literally or figuratively): - as in door, gate. Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
12tribes Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 The open door is the door to the most holy place and the shut door is the door to the holy place Revelation 3:7-8 King James Version (KJV) 7And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. The hour of temptation is the disappointment of 1844 Revelation 3:10 King James Version (KJV) 10Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 12tribes Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Quote: Sabbath, March 24, 1849, we had a sweet and very interesting meeting with the brethren at Topsham, Maine. The Holy Ghost was poured out upon us, and I was taken off in the Spirit to the city of the living God. Then I was shown that the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ relating to the shut door could not be separated, and that the time for the commandments of God to shine out with all their importance, and for God’s people to be tried on the Sabbath truth, was when the door was opened in the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary, where the ark is, in which are contained the ten commandments. This door was not opened until the mediation of Jesus was finished in the holy place of the sanctuary in 1844. Then Jesus rose up and shut the door of the holy place, and opened the door into the most holy, and passed within the second veil, where He now stands by the ark, and where the faith of Israel now reaches. {EW 42.1} I saw that Jesus had shut the door of the holy place, and no man can open it; and that He had opened the door into the most holy, and no man can shut it (Revelation 3:7, 8); [see page 86. See also appendix.] and that since Jesus has opened the door into the most holy place, which contains the ark, the commandments have been shining out to God’s people, and they are being tested on the Sabbath question. {EW 42.2} Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Revelation is full of sanctuary symbols I think you have gone off topic here, already. According to the OP; the intent is to explore the text in Rev 3:8. Can you show how Rev 3:10 relates to the OP? And even more, can you prove why we should come to the conclusion that Rev 3:10 is referring to the disappointment of 1844? The "disappointment" of 1844 which you refer to did not happen to the whole world, as did the "temptation" of Rev 3:10. The facts, as you relate them here are not correctly connected or related. Neither is the spirit of prophecy statement you quoted accurately related to the OP. The Bible text under consideration tells us a number of very important things. There is not just one message here, for one time or for one people group. One of the most significant things to me in this text is where Jesus says: "I know thy works..." This is an exciting part of the gospel message; and it is present truth. Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." Gibs Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 No man can shut this one, Joh 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. Joh 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Do you know that the book of John is also full of sanctuary symbols Sanctuary in the book of John Sanctuary symbol - upfront ‘And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us’ (1:14. Compare Exodus 25:8) Altar of sacrifice ‘Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’. (1:29) Laver of water ‘Unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the Kingdom of God’ (3:5). ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that says to you ‘Give Me a drink’, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water’ (4:10). Shewbread ‘I am the bread of life’ (6:48). Lampstand ‘I am the light of the world’ (8:12). Altar of incense of prayer ‘Whatever you ask in my name, that I will do … if you ask anything in my name, I will do it’. (14:13,14). Most Holy Place John 17 is the High Priestly prayer – it takes us ‘within the veil’ into the Most Holy place of heaven. Overaged Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 Yes; it is true, there are a lot of sanctuary symbols throughout the Bible. And, as we know, there is more than one "door" belonging to the sanctuary. Going from the original post here; maybe you could tell us how you would relate the sanctuary "door" or "doors" to the "door" being referred to in Rev 3:8? That might be an interesting aspect to add to this topic? What do you think? Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." It is interesting to note here; atleast it is to me, how that there is only one "door" mentioned here, and it is referred to as being "opened" or "closed." The thing that is always in the back of my mind when I consider a text in the NT of the Bible; is how is this, or is this, connected somehow, to something, in the Old Testament? Here is a text I found in the OT that seems to show a very obvious connection to Rev 3:8 Quote: Isa 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. How is Isa 22:22 connected to Rev 3:8? What is this "key of the house of David" that is used to unlock this "door" which NO MAN can open or shut? What is this "door" of scripture? And what does it mean for us today? Let us pray and study this most interesting topic! Notice verse 7 there are 2 doors mentioned Revelation 3:7 (7) And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
