Who gets to define "Christ's Character"?

I notice with interest that when a contentious issue comes up, that some claim that others should be more "Christlike".

But who gets to define what that is exactly?

The Holy Spirit has moved the prophets to openly denounce foolishness and sin.

Jesus Himself publically reprimanded and "outed" the Pharisees as being self serving and egotistical, revealing their motives and evil desires...

But over and over again, we have this idea presented that it is "unChristlike" to say anything "negative" to another.

Yet Jesus often spoke to people rebuking them.

How do we reconcile that?

Over to you.

Twilight 11,

The whole so called Christian world today is extremely liberal and most SDA's have fallen into it also.

In the beginning of SDAdventism it was the law the law until it was said it was as dry as the hills of Gilboa. Well the message of 1888 was to correct that and most did come up out of that ditch and onto the straight and narrow path but there were ones that quickly began to fall into the oposite ditch of liberalism which was heavily preached in many of the Sunday protestant churches.

It got heavier and heavier in SDAdventism and it really began here in the early 1950's. A few years went by with stiff discussions against it but could not be rescinded and so a great falling out happened.

You are destined now to fight liberalism tooth and nail from here on out. Don't be disheartened as we are in the majority, maybe not around us of men but with Him and His Truth of the True and Only Way.

Jesus Christ was cruicified for the Truth, all the apostles suffered the death of Martyrdom and John was exiled to Patmos and Martyrdom was heavy up through the dark ages.

The Truth of the matter each must obtain the power to be overcomers which is very easy to obtain but it requires full and total surrender, nothing withheld. Men do not want to surrender all, each has "pet" things and wants to be saved holding onto them. Self must be cruicified and a full commitment to be a new creature in Him and He in us.

Paul gave this "mystery" to the Gentiles which was known among the Jews.

Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

This indwelling only happens when the "house" is thorougly cleaned and then He can come and dwell within and then we become more than conquerors. The devils see Him dwelling in the person and they know they are defeated foes as long as that person don't put out their only hope and strength.

This is the issue that is the most important of all but will be fought against the hardest. Yes you will have to endure being called a legalist and maybe more.

The truth of this matter can stand all investigation and only shines the brighter and stronger, so let the discension come. He and His Word and His Holy Spirit will stand by the defenders of this all the way. None need be afraid to speak up and be a part of the sweep of the Truth.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I agree with much of what you say here, but some points I think we would have to discuss at another time (1950's, indwelling of the Holy Spirit pre sanctification etc).

But we are probably close on the main issues, which is of course the need for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

---------------

Liberalism, is secularism in its "stealth mode".

What is interesting, is that many liberals are beginning to paint Christ as a liberal and they never get challenged when they present that assumption.

They then insist that anytime you point out sin or error, you are being "unChristlike".

Ignoring the fact that Jesus often denounced sin and error.

In His own life and through His leaders and Prophets.
