Moderators Bravus Posted January 4, 2012 Author Moderators Posted January 4, 2012 Romney I think is one of the more experienced politicians, in the sense of someone who has held power. He was governor for 4 years, and has also been a successful businessman. He eliminated the deficit in Massachusetts while he was governor. I think he's the best candidate to unite the country rather than further divide it, as a Republican from the Northeast. I suspect that, as a Mormon, he is likely to be better for freedom of religion than some of the other candidates. Santorum has youth on his side compared to the other candidates, and has also held office in both the House and the Senate. He is a strong fiscal and social conservative and would receive a lot of support. I personally like Paul's general stance on foreign policy, which is much more isolationist than any we've seen recently and than any of the other candidates. (As Woody reminded me, though, it also means he would abolish America's generous foreign aid programs.) He is the real 'small government' candidate who would get the government out of lots of areas of American life in ways the other candidates wouldn't... and despite my labels, I think that's a good thing. Perry has been a governor for even longer than Romney, and is considered to be a successful one. He has served in the military, and worked for a living selling books door to door. Gingrich is a very experienced politician and operator, and quite an intelligent guy (though I think that aspect is sometimes overblown a bit). He has experience getting things done as Speaker of the House. He has also been a university prof, which endears him to me. No doubt others will have plenty to add... and as I said, let's try to keep *this* thread positive: plenty of other places to outline our differences with the candidates. Quote Truth is important

It reminds me of a debate between Rick Perry and Tony Sanchez. They were both asked to name something they admired in the other. Their faith was the answer. Each said they admired the other's faith. I was really kidding about noting positive to say. In my opinion Ron Paul is the best candidate the GOP has to offer right now. His foreign policy is courageous and and would do much free the US from it "foreign entanglements" that are draining is resources, damaging it reputation and making the world a less safer place.. I don't agree with many of his policies but I see him a fundamentally honest man. A man of good character. George Washington and Dwight Eisenhower would probably campaign for him.
