I have tended to think of the Spirit of the Lord more in his role as Comforter, but in this passage, the role appears to be more to help us discern between right and wrong. I wonder if the Holy Spirit has a role in what we call our conscience. I also wonder about recent politically correct actions in society such as considering it wrong to speak out against practicing a gay lifestyle, and what role these may be having on our conscience/ openness to hear the Holy Spirit? Perhaps also we may tend even as Christians to think more of those moments when we feel especially close to God as being the work of the Spirit, but maybe also those when we kick ourselves for messing up and realize we need to make changes? I think of how we spend time with our best friends, doing interesting stuff, talking, sharing, but also telling them when they are about to make a serious mistake. Maybe the Holy Spirit is in some ways like that as well. Maybe at times we neglect the rebukes of the Spirit because we think of Him as always keeping it positive, and never dealing with us about the tough stuff. Maybe our society has made it easy to do this and hard to do otherwise. And maybe we are making a mistake when we do this. Quote Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.
Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I think you are on track and what I see is that The Holy Spirit Is Christ with us to be the "Head" of His Church, to send His Church and to guide His Church. I find He is the Ordainer of those chosen by Him to preach and it is our duty to determine if the one preaching is Ordained of Him or merely of men. We must be as the Noble Bereans these last days of confusion and so much false and corruption that has come in from every angle. Do men allow Him, The Holy Spirit to be the "Head" is a big question. It needs to be answered. It appears to me that a liberality has come in that erases the true way. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 A realist when it comes to salvation and His Divine Nature installed in us and then our will surrendered to do His will and nothing with held is our way and the way He has made. Paul gave it best to us Gentiles, Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: The Messianic Jew knew this but Paul lets the Gentiles know the secret or mystery. When He dwells within we have His Divine Nature. This can only come about with full repentance and surrender of self and all we are. No pet thing witheld. Then we can walk as He walked as now we have the same advantage He had. Mybe even greater since the devils can see His indwelling and know they have been defeated by Him. So really they are defeated foes as long as you hold to Him and will always in all things to do His will. Your will is now His Will and your love is now His Love. You are now one in Him. A victorious Overcomer! The Bible says that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. Yep- that includes straightening us out when the need is there. Sometimes I think that we don't speak enough of the Holy Spirit, or invoke His presence as much as we might.
