Woody Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 What favorite birds of yours - are in your area? I will start off by saying that my little area of the world - has been seeing the Snowy Owl. How cool. What's happenin' in your neck of the woods? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 7, 2012 Administrators Posted January 7, 2012 I am enjoying the return of the Pileated Woodpeckers to our woods and backyard. olger Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 We have some rusty gate hinges out in the field. That's the sound that pheasants make. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Members phkrause Posted January 7, 2012 Members Posted January 7, 2012 I have to say that I've lost faith in my bird friends. When we first moved here from Mass, where we had all sorts of birds: Cardinals, Bluejays, Tit Mouse, Doves, White-breasted Nuthatch, Chickadees, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Baltimore Oriole (only one in some 38 years of living there), American Robin, Junco, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Red-winged Blackbird, Finches, probably others that I could never identify. Here we had a pair of Cardinals for about a few months and I even saw a Bluejay (once) but nothing since. Brought my bird feeder down with me, where the squirrels can't get up on, etc. Bought lots of there favorite seeds, but nothing. Not sure what the problem is. The only thing I can think of is when we first got here I had brought some suet and had placed those out there before I got bird seed. Now that I've put the bird seed out and no suet, well no birds either. Will try buying suet and see what happens. Moderators LynnDel Posted January 7, 2012 Moderators Posted January 7, 2012 I love watching the little quail families as they skitter through my yard. LD Quote LD
Moderators Nan Posted January 7, 2012 Moderators Posted January 7, 2012 I love the cheerful chatter of the rainbow lorikeets as they look for nectar and seeds. The raucous calls of the sulphur crested cockatoos annoy some people but the birds always seem so cheerful. One day in a town we were visiting, there was a thunderstorm near dusk and a very loud clap and lightning close to a tree where many white cockies were settling in for the night. The racket when they all took off, very startled, was quite something. Quote
Administrators Naomi Posted January 7, 2012 Administrators Posted January 7, 2012 I enjoy the cute little humming birds that spend the summers here. I do have a variety of birds that seem to hang out ... and the cat has learned that they are not for his diner. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Dottie Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 We have crows, buzzards, osprey, ibis, anhingas, muscovy ducks, great blue herons, cattle egrets, etc. but nothing in our yard (cocker spaniels). The birds are mostly at a park a few blocks from here. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted January 8, 2012 Administrators Posted January 8, 2012 Ooooo! I'm tickled over the range of birds that you guys have around your home! Today on our drive we saw a few Bald Eagles and some Trumpeter Swans.
