alysee Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 What would you do? I would think bible reading and praying would be acceptable for the sabbath but then you should be doing that everyday anyways. I ask because there isn't a church nearby but I would like to join a congregation. Quote
Woody Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Join a Sunday church or go to another Sabbath keeping church if possible. Fellowship with believers is important even if they are not of the same faith as you. If you are doing as you should - then you know Truth and attending a Sunday church should not move you from what scripture teaches. Continue to keep the Sabbath with Bible Study and watching Hope or 3ABN on TV. Join a soup kitchen or other ministry. Reach out to your neighbors. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted January 15, 2012 Moderators Posted January 15, 2012 No, don't join a Sunday-keeping church. Join a Sabbath- keeping church that teaches and practices Bible truth. If there isn't a Sabbath-keeping church nearby, pray that God will help you spread the Sabbath truth to people living near you so you can help organize a small company you can meet & worship with. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Kountzer Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Obviously you have a computer and access to the internet. I would join and fellowship with an adventist church online. You can hear sermons, sing do bible studies, all of that, with an adventist church online. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
Administrators Naomi Posted January 15, 2012 Administrators Posted January 15, 2012 Alysee, I am sorry to hear about your situation. And,I understand your issue. I understand because I have numerous SDA churches in my area. However, they range from 29 miles to 60 miles from my home. It makes it difficult to be a part of the church community for activities other than just going to church. On bad weather Sabbaths I have 3ABN, HOPE, LLNB, and my computer. I do attend Singspriations, afternoon teas, prepare dishes for funerals, etc for the Sunday churches within my community. We have 4 churches and the community is close-net so I always feel welcome. Yet, they know who I am and what I believe. Also, I often have have people over and we play the piano, sing hymns from my hymnal, discuss Bible verses. Usually on Friday evenings but if they have ballgames or other activities we do it on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. I don't know if what works for me would work for you but perhaps it will help a bit. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

As Kountzer and John have already suggested, since you do have a computer you could be able to watch the Hope Channel or 3ABN online. Obviously if you are strong in your Sabbath believes than as Woody mentioned, than maybe going for the fellowship with others, on Sunday would be something to look into. I do know of a number of SDAs that have done this, but eventually they start feeling funny because they hear things that they just can not agree with. So I use that as a last resort. Anyway, will put that on my pray list that you find something that will be a blessing for you. Woody Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Quote: So I use that as a last resort. This is good advice. But from what I read - that is where she is at. The point is that Christian fellowship is of GOd and is important. Jesus didn't agree with all the teachings of the churches he attended. It is eye opening and actually it just enforces one's beliefs to attend a church that does not believe as you do. The first thing that I struggle with in my mind is the issue of gaudy jewelry and make up. It's just a turn off to me in church. So - two things happen to me: 1.) I struggle with the idea of judging someone for what they wear. While it is a struggle - I find in the end - that I can still love them and actually learn from their very Godly witness in other areas. 2.) I learn that God loves and accepts people where they are at. HE knows their heart and works with them as HE sees it is important to work with them. What I need to do is to just back off and take a big deep breath and try to do my part to witness what I need to witness about. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. alysee Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 I have no car so I would be walking or taking a bus. By bus it seems to be an average of 40 to 50 minute ride each way making it an extra 2 hours. I shouldn't complain but it's $6 both ways as well. Quote
Members phkrause Posted January 15, 2012 Members Posted January 15, 2012 alysee, not sure what it used to cost about 50+years ago, but my Mom, brother and me had to take 2 buses and a train to get to Church. My SIL who lives in Wyoming, if she wants to attend a SDA church has to drive about 60 miles I believe. But again don't feel bad, if you have access to the internet, which is obviously the case, you should be able to get 3abn or the Hope Channel, and watch SDA programming. Administrators Naomi Posted January 15, 2012 Administrators Posted January 15, 2012 alysee have you discussed this issue with the pastor of the nearest church, or one of the church members? You may be surprised that there may be someone willing to give you a ride to church. You would not be the first person in that situation. I knew of one young girl who lived a very long way from the nearest church and members took turns picking her up and returning her safely home. Just a suggestion. Woody Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 It's my personal belief that personal contact (fellowship) is still needed. And if the Sunday Church is the only other option for fellowship - then don't feel bad going that direction. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Dottie Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You mentioned riding a bus. Is there a quantity discount? It used to be you could buy tickets in quantity and get a lower rate. If you bought them on a day other than Sabbath, that would be no different than paying your rent on a day other than Sabbath and living in your home on Sabbath, at least the way I look at it. Just another suggestion from someone who has never been in this position. Dottie I'll be praying for success in your search for a solution. D. Quote
alysee Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 I just wanted to give an update. I have been attending a church that I had obviously missed when I was searching for churches. It is about a 30 min. walk in the winter and a 20 min. walk without snow and ice. I had been praying every single day for an answer. God is great. Quote
Administrators Naomi Posted January 30, 2012 Administrators Posted January 30, 2012 That is such good news Alysee. Thank you for the update. May you enjoy God's many blessings. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
