STAN

I think he was a Democrate but became an INDEPENDENT

dgrimm60

Always a nice sound bite.Would like them to be a bit more specific.

Recently in an attempt to help someone that didn't have a clue how to locate aid I found some surprising abuse of the poor.

I was surprised to learn that my husband and I miss by less than a 100,00

387.00 per month in food stamps

Utility bills reduced to less than 20.00 per month

Assistance for phone bill.

I do qualify for taxpayer weatherization of our home.

I would not have to pay my supplemental insurance

If I am a single mother or meet income qualifications I can have numerous education grants, never to be repaid. In addition I can have my child care paid for.

I can have assets like new pickup, golf cart to tool around the neighborhood,boat/motor,three tv's,one a new 52 inch, cable, and have others pick up my prescriptions costs.

Now if I could find some way to remove that 100.00 from the SS checks I would be thousands of dollars a year to the good.

Most of the poor are pretty well covered. It is the middle class that get hammered by the poor and by going after the rich so Washington can keep spending and spending, without any effort to reduce fraud and unnecessary spending of other people's money. The money taken from the rich does not reach the "poor" except for a very minimal amount and taxes and costs the middle class

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

There is some truth in there but unfortunately most of it is just rhetoric which is what so much of politics has come to.

Bonnie, it is not about you, it is not about helping out those who need help. Reread it.

Sorry you took it that way.It was meant as an example of what I found that was out that for the poor in an attempt to find information for someone else.

Never had a reason before to receive the financial requirement for aid for those that are at certain income levels.

It does seem it is about the poor and depriving them because of two wars and the rich not giving enough so we balance the budget

by depriving them

I am a fan of Apple Computers.

A statement was made by the late president. Steve.

They had not paid income tax as they were able to keep all the profits off shore.

The new plant employees 160,000 people A DAY in some city in China, just the one plant.

I think they should have to at least pay tax on the huge profits the tell their shareholders they make.

Is that an unreasonable thought? (that is IF that statement was true)

If the huge companies can avoid taxes, why not all?

You more than likely paid more taxes then all the oil companies put together.

Amazing, what do you think my bank account looks like?Last time I read anything on that I think Exon paid over 30 billion dollars including all taxes they paid.More than 3 or 4 times the profits to their shareholders.Same for other big oil companies in the US

The laws begin in Washington. The laws that penalize business here will surely go elsewhere.

If the huge companies can avoid taxes, why not all?

The taxes paid by a huge company is passed on to the customer in the price of the product. So if Apple pays more taxes, the cost of Ipads, Iphones and Macs goes up. So who is really paying the tax? The consumer is.

When companies make big profits they either invest more money (which stimulates the economy) or they pay stock holders dividends (who pay capital gains tax). If they invest the money, the economical stimulus created by the investment should generate tax revenue. So either way, the profits of a company end up creating more tax revenue.

Now that isn't to say I am against taxing companies. I just don't look at companies as a big piggy bank for the government to raid. Nor do I see a company that is not paying "income" tax as being unethical. There are many kinds of taxes and I doubt any company exists without paying any of them.

So if the lower class did not have to pay taxes, they could buy more things..

The lower class do not pay federal income tax. Those on welfare don't pay state or federal income tax. In MN,and no it isn't about me,many of the lower class have more than those not on welfare.

A single parent with 2 children did get 780.00 a month cash benefit.Very cheap housing. Child care if they work part time,or if moving from welfare to work. I did day care for a single parent with 4 children,3 in her custody. Her cash benefit was over a 1000.00 at that time The county paid me 250.00 per week for their care. She paid 180.00 for a tri-level

3 bedroom,2 bath, utilities included except for phone. No medical expense. About 800.00 in food stamps. She had cable,2 TV's,two computers with internet,a modest but nice van. Free school lunch for each.

Free education if she chose to go on to school, with day care continuing.

Is it the responsibility of the taxpayer to provide more and more for the "poor"

So if the lower class did not have to pay taxes, they could buy more things..

The tax code is a highly complex thing. Someone needs to pay taxes so that the government can operate and provide the citizens the services they demand through the democratic process.

How much tax should companies pay? I think that depends on many factors. Who are their clients? Who are their competitors? Taxing them too much will shift more cost to their clients and perhaps make them vulnerable to their overseas competitors.

What about the oil companies? If we increase their taxes, what are they going to do? Isn't obvious that they will increase the price of gasoline? The price of gasoline is purely cost driven. The more it cost to produce it, the higher the price at the pump.

So why are oil companies making so much money? I think a big part of that is that they are multi-level and profit on their product on every level. They pump crude out of the ground and make a profit. They refine it at the refineries and make a profit. They truck it to the pump and make a profit. They sell it at the pump and make a profit. If the government wanted to force the companies to break up so that Exxon/Mobil only pumped crude or only refined gasoline, I think they could but I don't think that would decrease the cost of the product at the pump.

Many Republicans claim they want to do away with income tax, yet they cry and throw a temper tantrum that the poor don't pay income tax.

Our tax code is as fair as any tax code can be. Everyone pays the same amount of taxes on their first $10,000 of income. Everyone pays the same amount of taxes on their second $10,000 of income. Everyone pays the same amount of taxes on their third $10,000 of income. Bill Gates is not paying more on his first $10,000 of income than I am. It is fair, fair, fair, fair. In fact, if anything is unfair it is that the poor and middle class have to bare the burden for Social Security.

I think Jesus taught that to he who is given much, much is expected.

I better be careful. Soon the right-wingers will be attacking Jesus for being a socialist.

Socialism is not christian giving or charity. It is not the taking from one and giving it to another

Indeed! It is everyone pitching in and sharing the resources. Health-care insurance is a fine example. If we follow the words of Jesus, those with more will pitch in more - those with less pitch in less.

They already do,maybe they are waiting for you to determine just what that amount should be for everyone.Forcing everyone to pitch in voluntarily so God does not strike them dead

They already do...

That's right and it is as it should be. I like our existing system and see no reason for change. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
