Pockey Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 New 4 part series from Amazing Facts and Doug Batchelor: We all know somebody that was once walking with Jesus and enthusiastic about being a Christian, but then for some reason they stopped attending church. Maybe you know some friend or family in that category? Do you wish there was something you could do to help bring them back to church? These four presentations are especially designed to address the main reasons people drift from their church families. So if you know someone who has wandered from the fold, invite them over for a little warm soup and encourage them to view these programs with you. And then pray the Holy Spirit will help them reclaim their faith! http://www.faithreclaimed.com/ Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 17, 2012 Moderators Posted January 17, 2012 I think it's a great initative, and there are lots of people out there. I'm not so sure about the effectiveness: the 'reasons' that they give are not my reasons, nor those of others I know. Nor are they the reasons of the majority of respondents to the survey of ex-Adventists I posted here a while ago. The first step has to be listening: assuming instead is a poor substitute, with the best will in the world. Quote Truth is important
Pockey Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 I think it's a great initative, and there are lots of people out there. In part one, the reasons they listed were based on research done by various orgs like The Barna Group. What were the reasons of the majority of respondents to the survey you posted? Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 17, 2012 Moderators Posted January 17, 2012 I'll paste a link to the detailed report when I'm on my computer rather than my phone, but the majority left due to doctrinal differences after intense Bible study, not (as these programs seem to suggest) due to personal conflicts or distraction by 'the world'. Moderators Bravus Posted January 17, 2012 Moderators Posted January 17, 2012 Here's the full report. The data belong to Sandy Whetmore, who did the study. http://www.bravus.com/FullReportFormerAdventistSurvey.pdf Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted January 17, 2012 Moderators Posted January 17, 2012 I believe so, yeah. There's info in the document about how and why she did the survey. Quote Truth is important
Pockey Posted January 19, 2012 Author Posted January 19, 2012 One of my favorite parts so far in this series are the testimonies. Particularly this one at 32:40 http://www.faithreclaimed.com/home/program-archives/s/2/p/1888.aspx Powerful. I like what Pastor Doug said right after this, that a lot of the testimonies were from AFCOE folks who had come back with a burning desire for Christ and that they had discovered the key to life is to receive Jesus and to share Jesus.
