bonnie Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Marianne Doubtful Elise Cooper Newt Gingrich's personal life has become an issue. What a surprise! I was waiting to see how long it would take. Personally, I would rather have the candidates and media focus on what is needed to make America great again, instead of this sideshow. Marianne Gingrich, the former Speaker's second wife, has made allegations in an ABC interview about her relationship with her former husband, which has turned into a "he said, she said." She has accused him of requesting an open marriage and asking for a divorce shortly after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. During the South Carolina debate Gingrich denied the allegations. There is a question of her credibility since in a July 2000 Associated Press article it was reported that "Marianne Gingrich disclosed Tuesday that she has suffered from neurological problems that could be a precursor to multiple sclerosis...Such an episode could represent a single event, perhaps related to a viral infection, or be a forerunner of multiple sclerosis." Considering they were divorced in the late 1990's, it does not appear that her recollections during the recent interview are accurate. She is definitely no Puritan, considering she was involved with Gingrich at the time of his divorce from his first wife. Vanity Fair reported in September 1995 that she had an affair with an Ohio married man, the father of three children, before she met Gingrich. I guess she is attracted to men with families. The question becomes, why is she doing this interview now? Is it vengeance? I guess hell hath no fury like the scorn of a woman. A consideration should be what his daughter Jackie told American Thinker for another article, that her dad "has changed a lot and is much different than he was back then." For most Americans that is "a change they can believe in." Moderators Bravus Posted January 20, 2012 Moderators Posted January 20, 2012 Details might be in question, but the fact that Gingrich had an affair with her while married to his previous wife, then with his current wife while married to her, are not being contested by Gingrich. Those are the broad facts of the issue... quibbles don't change them. Actually, though, here's a different take on it: http://www.salon.com/2012/01/20/why_newt_is_like_st_augustine/ Lots of other kinds of immorality that are more relevant in terms of what a President will do. It's bizarro-world, though, for those of us who lived through the Clinton impeachment, to now hear Republicans arguing that sexual morality is irrelevant. Quote Truth is important

It's bizarro-world, though, for those of us who lived through the Clinton impeachment, to now hear Republicans arguing that sexual morality is irrelevant. I don't recall anyone saying it was irrelevant. What is irrelevant is a woman that was willing twice that we know of to be the third party in a marriage being so insulted at the thought this was suggested for her.And we have only her word for it. Past behavior should be considered.Past behavior that gives every indication of being just that should not be used as if it is new, startling and current.Clintons behavior was carried out thru his marriage, governorship and into the presidency. His wife gave a calculated and lying national performance blaming others while knowing exactly what her husband had done for years Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Truth is important right? Quote: She’s attacking the candidate who shut down the entire U.S. government because it was spending too much money on poor people; who thinks that “African-American” is just a synonym for food stamp recipient; False,it is hardly only blacks that are food stamp recipients, nor is this what Newt Gingrich said.Regardless how some want to make it about one race it simply isn't Newt Gingrich said.....President Obama is the most successful food stamp president in American history,” Gingrich said. “I would like to be the most successful paycheck president in American history.” Quote: and who wants to conscript impoverished children into janitorial jobs to teach them promptness. And we’re worrying about what he did with his #$%^? Watch out: When all morality collapses into sexual morality, the voters will become so fixated on whom the candidates are screwing they don’t notice … it’s them. Three of my sons worked as janitors thru a portion of academy. Big deal. Many that were impoverished and going on someone else's dime didn't.Many that had wealthy parents didn't. Our sons had to and it never hurt them a bit,in fact, any honest labor is good for anyone. They even emptied bed pans Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 It will be interesting to see the results of this new/old news.MN is a very liberal state. We have two local talk shows, conservative, but the hosts are far harder on the republicans than they are the democrats.Call ins are made by democrats, liking the fact they get a conservative talk show to agree with them. This has been the topic for the last 24 hours, calls are running 3-1 in favor of Newt. Not necessarirly as in "I am going to vote for him" but in their disgust for his former wife and the media that thought to gain something for the democrats by knocking Newt Gingrich back.Their words, not mine.Pointing out it was this same media that kept mute over John Edwards spreading his questionable charms around, only reporting on it after the National Enquirer broke the story. This same callers were incensed over what they called the boorishness of John King.No one thought immorality was irrelevant, they saw a lot of immorality of his second wife and the media. Whether he wins or loses the nomination it will be interesting to see if their muck tactics work or blows up in their face.If it doesn't knock him out I expect to see a flurry of current women that claim they have had affairs with Newt Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Dr. Shane Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I agree the details are not that important. The undisputed facts are bad enough. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
LifeHiscost Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I agree the details are not that important. The undisputed facts are bad enough. I know that but for the grace of God, there go I. On the other hand I also see more clearly why this pertains to the future of the U.S. "No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."Micah 6:8 NLT God blesses! bonnie Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 I agree the details are not that important. The undisputed facts are bad enough. The details that you claim aren't so important have been out there for some time now. This is not new or startling. The undisputed facts are just that.Actions of Newt Gingrich at that time in his life were reprehensible. Something that most I know that consider voting for him take very seriously. The pressures of the presidency have to be enormous if the job is taken seriously.Pressures that allow for any one to commit serious acts. Then comes the question,Can someone change? There are those that ask WWJD and then there are those that claim they are acting and behaving on his behalf. We have a man that makes no apologizies or claims to have changed his views, that have friendships and assc that will only regret they have not caused more personal harm and death. We have a president that could not pass a security clearance check, yet he heads the most powerful military in the world. Some may look at past behavior, the confessions of a fallen man, current behavior that does not show past behavior being repeated and choose the later in favor of a unrepentent man.
