In that he is not a great communicator and person who can really get in touch with people. It's not really all that clear what he stands for, other than 'I want to be president', and there is no one-sentence mission statement that has been clearly communicated that encapsulates what would *happen* during a Romney presidency.

Bear in mind, this is the candidate I prefer, of the two front-runners.

I'm actually trying to find *good* reasons (i.e. not his Mormonism) why he has failed to cut through with Republican voters.

Sure, there's the 'he's too liberal' stuff, but I think if he was a better communicator he could carry that off.

It just seems to me like the problem is he's not that great at communicating.

Some good observations there Bravus.

I hadn't thought of the Kerry comparison. But there are some similarities.

I see what you mean Bravus but the fact that Romney was a Governor, led the Olympics and has had considerable business success makes him a much better candidate than Kerry was.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Two things:

1. Romney's opponents have successfully painted him as a moderate.

2. Romney's opponents have convinced the TEA Party base that Obama cannot win.

And his Mormonism does play a role. I know. I live in the Bible belt and many callers to local talk radio shows have mentioned that Mormonism is a cult and they don't want to have to choose between a Mormon and a Muslim.
