Parts of Brisbane have already had 250 mm (about 10 inches in the old money) of rain, with no sign that it's going to stop.

There's localised flooding, but little chance of serious, wide-spread floods like last year because this year we were coming off a longish dry spell and the ground is dry, whereas last year it was already saturated when the big rains came.

Sometimes its not at how dry the ground is, its about how quick the ground can absorb the rain. Especially if the rain comes down so fast that the ground can't handle it.

I'm a Sydney-sider originally, Nan, and would *love* to live there. It's just *way* too expensive, at least in the nice parts.

But looking at the weather forecast a lot of the year, when Sydney is 17 and Brisbane is 24, and jumping on my motorbike, I still think over-all I get the better deal!

You guys... with inverted winters weird me out! Why can't you be like normal people, and have winter during the winter?
