Dr. Shane Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 The economy grew a little slower than expected and part of that is due to the price of gasoline. We are spending more on gas and less on other things. However Exxon-Mobile profits are up by 44% Does that make anyone happier? Exxon-Mobile may help my 401K a little, but the few personal stocks which I have in the company won't help me much. When you are a "traveling salesperson" the price of gas is a killer! So, NO it doesn't make me happier. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Dr. Shane Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 I heard today on the radio that the US imports most of its oil from the following country in this order: 1. Saudi Arabia 2. Mexico 3. Canada 4. Venezula Over 40% come from Mexico and Canada combined. After these four countries the others are in a far distance. However since the economy in China is growing the US will soon be competeing for oil and the need for alternative energy will be even greater. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Neil D Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Bush talked about an Energy Policy today...He complianed that the goverment should have done something about an energy policy 10 years ago...Let's see,,, there was a republican congress that was bent upon embarrassing Clinton and succeeded...But that is a totally different story...So, never mind.... But I would like to see the energy policy enacted, one that included tax credits for energy efficient cars, like hybreds... Dr. Shane Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Yes, I would say you are a bit off track. Clinton wasn't re-elected until '96 and the Monica scandel didn't happen until... '98? In 1995 the Republican Congress was still passing legislation they proposed in the Contract with America. They proposed a bunch of ideas to the country and the country voted them in. As a result those ideas became law. They actually did what they were promised. Energy issues were not part of the Contract with America. Gasoline was pretty cheap when considering the value of the dollar. That is why Americans were buying big cars and the SUV craze was just beginning. What should have happened 10 years ago is the increase in the price of gasoline so we, as a nation, would have made energy one of our priorities. BTW: if the '95/'96 Republican Congress succeeded in embarassing Clinton why was he re-elected in '96? Seems if that is what they were doing, they failed Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Neil D Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Shane, you can't let go, can you? Everyone has to see it your way or not at all, eh? You are a poor poor diplomat... The point of my post was that I was GLAD that BUSH initiated an energy policy.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
