Moderators Bravus Posted January 29, 2012 Moderators Posted January 29, 2012 With considerable regret, I withdrew my application for the job in Brunei yesterday. Everything about the job was great, and the people were very nice, but our finances just don't allow it. There's no guarantee that Suzie could get a job, or even a work visa, and we need both of us working to survive. Debt slavery is the pits: working to get out of it now, and hoping others can learn from our experience. So we'll be staying in Queensland, one way or another. Either still at the University of Queensland where I am now, or the application I have in at Griffith University on the Gold Coast might come through: still waiting on that. Quote Truth is important
Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2012 Members Posted January 30, 2012 I know what you mean, ya gotta do what you have to do. Where's Brunei from where you are now? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2012 Members Posted January 30, 2012 OK I found it. its north of Australia. Mayalasia I'm guessing? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted January 30, 2012 Author Moderators Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah, it's a tiny little country at the top of the big island Malaysia is on. It's a sultanate, so like a monarchy, and is Muslim. It has considerable oil and natural gas wealth. Would have been a great adventure.., Quote Truth is important
Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2012 Members Posted January 30, 2012 Kind of like do missionary work? Was that your intention? or just for a change of pace deal? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted January 30, 2012 Author Moderators Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah, more the latter: if I'm a missionary for anything it's probably science[1]. I'd be teaching Bruneian teachers about how to teach physics. Part of it is just that different experiences are great, and moving to a different culture helps open our eyes. I strongly recommend getting out there in the world to everyone. [1] On religious matters I'm much more likely to be in dialogue with people than claiming I have The Truth to give to them. Administrators Naomi Posted January 30, 2012 Administrators Posted January 30, 2012 Bravus, It is too bad that you won't have this experience just now. We do what we gotta do. Perhaps this or something even more exciting will open up in the future. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2012 Members Posted January 30, 2012 At one point when I got into printing, after graduating from HS, I was kinda hoping for a chance to go to the middle east. We had a printing house in Lebanon, but when war broke out there the church brought all there workers home and closed up shop there. That would've been great, but than the AUC college press got sold to a private SDA and I was officially out of denominational work and no more opportunity for going overseas and work. I would've had to look for work overseas and than pay my own way, and I didn't have the coins for that. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators Bravus Posted January 30, 2012 Author Moderators Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah, I'm sure there'll be more adventures later. And for now, the upside is that I get to stay closer to my daughters for the next few years! Will focus on getting out of debt and building up some savings, so we have more room to move in future. Quote Truth is important
Administrators Naomi Posted January 30, 2012 Administrators Posted January 30, 2012 You listed a lot of good reasons. Being close to your daughters is a very good one. Here's to the future Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
nuff sed Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Brunei is on the island of Borneo. About half the island is part of East Malaysia which consists of Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah. The other half or the island belongs to Indonesia. Nuff Sed Quote
