There are very strict roles between the sexes; the wife has to divorce the husband if he stops attending church. The interesting thing about that was, at least my church, they preached that we should not vote for a Catholic to be President. That was my first indoctrination into politics. Never had the church said not or to vote for a particular candidate, but it was always well know at the time that you pretty much didn't vote for a democrat, so now they figured they had a legit reason to tell there members not to vote for a democrat, but especially a catholic democrat. I was one of only two kids in the sixth grade at the SDA school in Loma Linda to vote for JFK. After the votes were counted, the teacher told the class that two "smart-alecks" voted for JFK. Alford claims the 18-month affair began in 1962, when she 19 and interning at the White House press office. In the interview, she tells Vieira tha, as she lost her virginity to the president, she felt "overpowered," if not physically: "I think overpowered in the sense that he was the president -- he was this unbelievably handsome man, 45 years old -- overpowered in the fact that he had chosen me," she explains. In her memoir, Alford says she met Kennedy while swimming in the White House pool. He later led her on a private tour of the White House, ending in the first lady's bedroom, where the affair began. Alford also claims that she had sex with the president days before he was assassinated. Alford's alleged affair has been in the news before. Though she wasn't named in Robert Dallek's 2003 biography of Kennedy, "An Unfinished Life," a short passage in the book mentioned that the president had had an affair with an intern. The only ones to vote for JFK were me and my friend, Jimmy Carrasco. Kennedy was really independent of the pope, though. For one thing, he knew the USA at that time was still very much a Protestant nation. It would be another 20 years before we would send an ambassador to the Vatican. Kennedy wouldn't have dared try to do that. The points brought up in the article don't appear to me to be good reasons for voting against him.
