Thanks for that comment and observation pk. But I have an excuse - I have eight screws in my head and sometimes they be a little loose. When people tell me that I am "screwed" - I have to admit to it.

Tom's characterisation of it may not be *entirely* fair: conservatism and prejudice aren't quite the same thing!

For me the upshot is that a higher intelligence will tend to question and see through the stereotypes that support prejudice.

What's cause for serious concern is the liberal belief that the cause of shallow thinking, bigotry, and ethical failure is lack of IQ! It's actually sad.Is that just another step towards the need for the rule of the elitist minds, and further proof that conservatives are genetically programmed to gravitate to being homophobic,racist,xenophobic,war mongering,bigoted,ad nauseum? Conservatives tend to be religious in their foundational beliefs,and a Christian conservative believes that the mind of God has a higher IQ than the highest liberal mind. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and therefore Christian conservatives tend to put their cognitive energies in submission to the revealed Biblical IQ of their Creator. This eliminates the necessity of having to be born with a higher IQ in order to be a 'deeper thinker'. But most conservatives are secure enough in their "lower IQ" to be able to laugh at liberal attempts to marginalize them. Well,maybe except for Woody.

The study starts out with it's own presuppositional agenda. It assumes that the moral positions in opposition to their own are inherently evil and therefore attempts to find a cause for such deviation. And to everyone's suprise the study finds that these racist,homophobic,ect... attitudes come from a lack of IQ! IOW maybe they just can't help being that way? Yet, liberals in the west tend to be the most socially,economically, educationally isolated and bigoted people in the world.Maybe a higher IQ has it's own built in flaws too.

I'm sure glad that Jesus looks past the most stupidest labels that people can place upon each other just so they can feel good about themselves. Reminds me of the story of the guy that came into the Temple and was so glad that he was not as bad as that other sinner.

Almost every discussion that devolves into 'conservatives versus liberals' loses all interest for me as it becomes a slanging match of stereotypes instead of a discussion of ideas.

What if we take what the paper actually says? That there is a correlation between lower intelligence and prejudice.

Remember, correlation is not causation: prejudice obviously doesn't *cause* lower intelligence, but the study does not prove that lower intelligence causes prejudice. More study is needed to unpick the causal relationships.

Is there any chance of rewinding and calmly discussing a quite interesting piece of research?

Yes Richard - but unfortunately - it's not just those on this forum that do this - but conservatives are bashed in the media in the same manner.
