Woody Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 After reading this: Quote: Notwithstanding the plain message that we gave to the people years ago in regard to the seventh-day Sabbath and other phases of present truth that make us a peculiar people, some have declared that in our institutional work we are undenominational. Those who have pursued this course, linking up with unbelievers, are not following the way of the Lord. He desires us to remain forever a peculiar people, holding "the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end." He desires us to stand as representatives of His and of His special message of truth in the last days of this earth's history. How are the people to be warned, unless the very institutions established as agencies for the proclamation of the message, remain true to its principles? {19MR 42.1} I was wondering the following - Does our church actually own hospitals? Or are they privately owned? And do we currently consider them to be denominationalized? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
BobRyan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Some hospitals are wholly owned by AHS - others are just managed by them. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
Administrators Gail Posted February 8, 2012 Administrators Posted February 8, 2012 Does this have to do with Kellogg and the building that was paid for by Mrs. Haskell and was used for an orphanage? As far as I know she was not SDA. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Gibs Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 At some point it joined with the "Porter Systems" of hospitals and I don't remember who that system is of but a lot of SDA hospitals have the "Porter" in it's name. It seems we were losing out and this move was made to keep on top. Anyone have anything on what was the original Porter system and whose was it? 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. ClubV12 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Seems to me there are about seven hospitals owned by the church through the AHS organization. Quote
nuff sed Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 There are seven hospitals in the Orlando, Fl. area alone. A look at the Adventist Health System home page lists forty-one hospitals in the US. http://www.adventisthealthsystem.com Nuff Sed Quote
ClubV12 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I would think, as Bob Ryan noted earlier, there is a difference between hospitals OWNED directly by the church (a small number) and those MANAGED under the care of AHS. Quote
