NAD President Jackson issues statement on error re:E-60 policy

This has to do with what the NAD voted concerning women serving as Conference/Mission presidencies.

It was more of a commission minister change. That is also the status I have, and most, if not all Female Pastors have.

Interesting Dan took full responsibility, yet this was started well before he was President.

I surmise that pressure was brought to bear on the NAD, and rightfully so in this matter. Interesting that the matter was given into the hands of lawyers to determine the rightness or wrongness of it.

The NAD Administration took this matter very seriously and requested legal counsel to

undertake a review of the General Conference Constitution, General Conference Working

Policy and the Church Manual in order to verify the governance role of the NAD

The results of this review were provided to us on

January 3, 2012, and clearly support the opinion that the North American Division Executive

Committee does not have the right to establish policies which are out of harmony with the

General Conference Model Constitution or General Conference Working Policy.

The conclusions that NADCOM has come to are the following:

a) From 2009 through 2011 the North American Division Committee did not have the

authority to vote a policy (E-60 – with the inclusion of the word “commissioned”)

that was out of harmony with the General Conference E-60 Policy.

The editors will be directed to omit the word “commissioned” from the E-60

Policy contained in the 2011-2012 edition of the NAD Working Policy.

The Administration of the North American Division takes full responsibility for failing to do

sufficient research into the constitutional issues that impacted our decisions. In bringing this

matter to the floor in 2010 and 2011 we were doing so under the assumption that the North

American Division had a constituency separate and distinct from the General Conference.

Using an ounce or two of critical thinking on this one is very helpful.

1. First of all it is hard to tell if this statement is meant to be a confession or a defense to insider NAD elements who are pushing Dan Jackson where he does not want to go. Pushing him to autonomy and independence from the GC.

2. If it is a confession - then Jackon has confessed that the NAD wanted to act independently and even against the GC thinking it could get away with it - since they thought they had a separate constituency that might back them -- or who could be considered as their own mini-kingdom - domain. Upon finding out that they did not have such excuse/backing/support/cover for their actions they are forced to back away from it.

3. If it is a defense to insider NAD elements - then Jackson is trying to get them not to blame him because their separatist goals were not realized and he is explaining to them - more than anyone else - that they were operating under the false impression that they had a sub-church constituency - mini-kingdom over which they held sovereign administrative rule independent of the GC.

If this was a defense then we pray for Dan Jackson having to deal with such strong forces inside the NAD that are apparently overpowering him and his administration, forcing them into such ill-advised opposition maneuvers against the GC. And we gladly affirm his appeal to our legal organizational structure and his statement that every way you slice it legally - those trying to push him away from full harmony with the GC have no legal right - not just a lack of moral right, to do so.

It is not difficult for me to believe that while Pastor Jackson may have been personally supportive of NAD's goals his sense of ethical and moral integrity was vastly different. Having gone thru SECC's 1990's attempt to trick it's constituency into defying the world church's GC decision on Women's Ordination, and watching Pastor Stephen Gifford, Pacific Union President, fly in to the meeting in order to expose the attempt for what it was (even though he personally supported WO)I have no doubt that the movement itself has open goals that do not preclude any form of pretense in order to accomplish it's ends. No matter what Pastor Jackson's reasons were for publishing the report (and seeking legal counsel)he should be noted as a man of courage for doing so.Even if he and I disagree on the main issue he has earned my deepest respect for loving his church over his agenda.

One seriously has to wonder just exactly what the NAD proponents were thinking?? The conclusion is so simple that even I saw the problem right away.Did anyone really think that they could slip this policy in under the radar wearing the disguise of a legal change of wording when it was openly contradictory to existing GC policy? The church is one body not many independently acting parts. And needing a group of attorneys to legally figure it out just shows how gone these people are.
