Dead in Sin

A. The Bible teaches that:

1. Prior to being saved, man is dead in sin. (Eph 2:1, 5; Col 2:13; 1 Pet 2:24; Rev 1:5).

2. Because of sin, man can do nothing good (Jer 13:23; Isa 64:6), and is separate from God which is why God does not hear (Isa 59:2).

3. Being spiritually dead, man is separate from Christ and can do nothing (John 15:5).

4. Christ, the Bread of Life, came to the world to give it life (John 6:33). Obviously, the world is dead otherwise Christ would not have given it life.

5. He who believes in God has transferred from death to life (John 5:24).

6. The death of Christ sanctified man (Heb 10:10).

7. Christ was raised for man's justification (Rom 4:25).

B. Christianity teaches justification occurs when a man believes or has faith in Christ, indirectly telling us believing comes before justification. But isn't this quite paradoxical since the dead cannot yet believe?

Question: The fact that men can now believe proves we are no longer dead, since the dead cannot believe, so when were men made spiritually alive?

Unless justified, men are dead in sin. To say that man has to believe first before he can be justified, is like asking the dead to believe! Do preachers not err when they teach belief comes before justification?
