Nicodema Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 People who are in a panic about anything generally are not thinking rationally. This has nothing to do with selfishness or self-centeredness. It has to do with someone who clearly had some issue she could not handle and was not in her right mind. Heaping shame and blame for motives that may have nothing to do with her conduct upon her hardly aid in the understanding of such a situation. I am not condoning what she did. I am merely stating that selfish and self-centered are value judgments upon someone's motives, and a person acting from a panic state of mind is not thinking about whether or how they are impacting others. They are not even thinking about the impact upon themselves! (That's why I say it's a misnomer to tag "selfish" or "self centered" onto something like this.) They are acting from a panic-driven, irrational impulse that overwhelms them. I have no idea why her impending wedding should be such a negative thing for her but I hope she sorts that out before saying "I do." I am glad for her sake the person who made this ignorant comment was some coffee-shop owner who did not know her personally. It seemed from reading the article that those who did know her personally were only concerned for her safety and well being, and glad to find her unharmed rather than angry with her and whining over her lack of consideration. She seems fortunate to have such a family and loved ones indeed. Just my 2 cents. Nico Quote "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?" -- T.S. Eliot
