Gibs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 So What!? We grow up saying those words...so what. We grow up hearing those words...so what. So what, so what, so what. It seems that anything that does not affect us personally or anything we feel like we can't change - we either answer so what with our words or answer so what with our actions and ignore it with a shoulder shrug. It's very subtle and surprising how we become so apathetic. We watch years of movies, play video games and view Hollywood as reality. We vicariously start living our lives around morning and late night TV. We even begin to loosen our hold on our citizen’s rights and allow the government to "take care" of us. We begin to view our lives in a tainted perspective of me and mine and no more! Now, let's take a look at the apathetic check list and see where we register! 1. How many murders have you seen on TV? Does it bother you? 2. How many times have you seen spouses cheating on each other on TV? Does it bother you? 3. How many times have you seen someone lie...and get away with it in the movies? Does it bother you? 4. How many times have you seen physical and verbal abuse highlighted on the evening news? Does it bother you? 5. How many times have you watched special prison inmate interviews? Does it bother you? 6. How many times do you hear and see an ambulance or fire truck in route to a tragic accident? If they are not coming to your house...does it bother you? “So what”...do we do? We are commissioned to go and become Jesus' hands and feet. We should pray for passion like fire and compassionate hearts striving and compelled to make a difference, forever leaving apathy behind us. We need to once again, take time to connect with our family, connect with our friends, connect with our neighbors and our community, but first connect to our God. Instead of saying “So what?” we can change that to: “So what” can I do for you? So what do you need? So what can I do to change the situation? So what does God say? To shrug our shoulders and say "so what” not only sells ourselves short, but sells God short, as well. We short change Him the opportunity to use us for blessing the world and those people right around us as a billboard of His love and excellent care. This is not real so why care? 2.) This IS real so why not be real and accept reality? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Ellen Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Is this your conscience working that made you post this, are you accusing the readers for apathy? The bible is full of murders, prisoners, and non-responsive people. It is also full of sympathetic people who did respond; healers who did something about it. etc. Do you have a message you have gotten out of your post, Gibs? Quote

Gibs Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Yes Ellen, So What, So What! I just posted it for entertainment and some thoughts at the same time. Members phkrause Posted February 23, 2012 Members Posted February 23, 2012 Gibs, I had a friend that I used to work with, every other statement that came out of his mouth was "So What." Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Gibs Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 PHK, Now that you mentioned that I did too and he did so much you kinda expected it as a resonse. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Dr. Rich Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Thanks Gibs--great stuff my friend! We did a 'show' on "The Bible On Trial" a few weeks go on apathy--the real problem today. Jesus called it "luke warm". I believe this is a foundational problem almost everywhere in the world. But then I find those few who show you that "they care". Isn't nice when someone really shows that they care? What IF no one else posted on this forum but you? The Syrophoenician Woman (Matt. 15:21-28) showed Jesus that she really did care. Interestingly, Jesus looks like He tried to tell her "I don't care" as found in verse 24 and 26. Hmmm, if that was me and my child was sick, what would I do? Are we really to be our 'brothers keeper'? Quote
Gibs Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Dr. Rich, Truly everyone is our brother and we should be kind and not abusive to no one. We are not the one to throw the first stone and many do just that. I will hear any man so long and then I don't try to downgrade or be unfriendly. Move on in a friendly way. I did get some unexpected response but the trouble is not mine you can see. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
