Stan Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 If you were Catholic, and followed the traditions, what would you give up for lent? Woody Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 My participation on Club Adventist. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Stan Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I think Lent is giving up something that important to you. Not really sure. Woody Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I think Lent is giving up something that important to you. Not really sure. Yeah. I suppose if I was a Catholic that believed in following the traditions - Club Adventist would probably not be all that important to me. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Kountzer Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 People were walking around yesterday with charcoal cross smudges on their foreheads. That let me know it was ash wednesday. That got me to thinking: I really don't know what ash wed. is all about. I've noticed it down through the years, but never understood it. I even looked it up in wikipedia and it still doesn't make sense. To each his own I guess. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
Members phkrause Posted February 23, 2012 Members Posted February 23, 2012 Here's a Wikipedia link. Its interesting, not sure that I agree with all of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Liz Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 If I were Catholic, I would probably give up Facebook--I spend way to much time there. But after 40 days, all my crops and animals would be dead, food would be burnt, my games would not be a pretty place to go back too. Please, support the March of Dimes.
Stan Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Giving up something you like every day for 40 days as a daily reminder of Christ giving up food for 40 days for us. Interesting conversation that could be. Stan Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 Yeah. I suppose if I was a Catholic that believed in following the traditions - Club Adventist would probably not be all that important to me. that explains why you are hardly ever online here. Dottie Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 The fact that it comes before Easter, which was at the end of His ministry, whereas the fasting was the beginning of His ministry, is interesting. I would guess that someone has figured out the dates and how they are connected. Quote
Dottie Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I would give up chocolate. I know, it's not good for me anyway... Quote
M. T. Cross Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I guess it would have to be music or spending time with my kids. Both would likely lead to murder so it might not be a good idea.... Quote

M. T. Cross Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Thats why I can't give up music or time with the kids. Quote

I'm pretty sure that even in the RC religion you don't have to give up your children for Lent. That would be a travesity to God. The true God puts children first. Administrators Gail Posted February 25, 2012 Administrators Posted February 25, 2012 This IS an interesting conversation! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I'm just saying that even as an Adventist, I'd give up on murder....music or time with the kids have nothing to with that decision....maybe for you, but not for me.... cricket Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I don't think I could give up food, as Jesus did for those 40 days. Though, I do suppose that with His help, it could be possible. Some Lutherans also practice this form of penitence. I think it is true that some Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians do as well. Quote

I just say those cause if you have to give up something important to you those would be the ones for me...... two things that keep me sane. I have bad habits I could give up for 40 days but they are not that important to me, I would be better off without them anyways. Quote
