Our boss really jumped the gun on things this year, we all knew that. But there is no way bare root trees and shrubs can survive eing planted in this kind of cold.

I half like having the day off, but would like the money......

Minus 25 C is OK, lol for me anyway. A little while ago I spent two days on my back under a pre-fab home removing all the frozen pipes and replacing them...in minus 30 C weather. That was cold...but yes, minus 25 is way too out there for planting stuff.

Good ice-fishing weather!

Is that when you have a building on top of the ice, with heat and electricity and cut a hole in the ice to fish? Sounds cool ... literally :)

I am ok with working in that temp, worked in much colder in Alberta.

But the plants don't like it, the tractors don't like it and the potting machines don't like it.

The coldest I worked in, was minus 48 C here in Alberta, and minus 50 C in northern BC

When I worked at Lakeside Packers in Brooks I did some overtime one night. We took the bus back to Medicine Hat and since a lot of us lived in this huge trailor park we always set up rides from where we got dropped off to the park.

Well there was this big sign that told the temp and the wind speed as you came into town. I had noticed that it was -45 with a 40km/h wind. Not to worry - even though I was just wearing a t-shirt, jean jacket, jeans and sneakers. I had a ride right? Well this ride was a different one than usual because I had worked overtime. The guy lived on one end of the trailor park and I lived on the other. It was about a km and a half walk. In nice weather thats no big deal. Also when I had gotten rides from this guy before he dropped me at my place. Well on this night he decided he did not want to. So dressed for late spring I walked that 1.5 km walking into the 40km/h wind in -45.

My eyes were frozen open, my nose was frozen shut and there was only one thing that kept me walking. You always here stories about people freezing to death in weather like that cause they were improperly dressed. Everyone says "What an idiot". I was not gonna let any one say that about me LOL
