Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 29, 2012 Members Posted February 29, 2012 and here's the video that exposes it... Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Moderators lazarus Posted February 29, 2012 Moderators Posted February 29, 2012 That's satire but probably not far from the truth. Facebook is great for government agencies. Having the public put their picture and other vital information online ready to be access saves a lot of time and money. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Moderators Kevin H Posted February 29, 2012 Moderators Posted February 29, 2012 It is amazing what you can do with facebook. Someone tried to steal my sister's catalitic converter, he has snow over his licence plate so we could not get his licence number and he drove off. My sister asking around places that buys used auto parts found a list of suspects and was able to narrow them down by facebook, and while the guy was not on facebook he had relatives my sister went through those last names and found the guy through profiles from his x-wife and his girlfriend. HaPPySmiLe Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Its the best part of private investigation for the gov't or basically anybody. you put pictures on their, you put your email, some people list their phone numbers, lists of your friends and relatives, updates your whereabouts!!! who needs a Central Intellegance Agency when people give their info for free? ....just sayin..... Moderators Bravus Posted March 1, 2012 Moderators Posted March 1, 2012 Worries many, doesn't really worry me that much, personally. I dunno - maybe it will just take one identity theft or bad experience to change my mind, but I like being open to the world. I like the international students who are deciding whether to come and research with me to be able to see more than a formal, institutional page. I'm still careful what information I post - it's pretty hard to find a home address or phone number for me on the web, aside from my work phone - but in general I'm pretty happy to be known... even by Google and Facebook, and whoever they sell info to. I know others will have dramatically different views. Quote Truth is important
Administrators Naomi Posted March 1, 2012 Administrators Posted March 1, 2012 It really doesn't matter a great deal. There is so much information available about each of us. As Bravus indicated, home addresses, phone numbers, when we are on vacation and where are not something one should share. That makes it easy for anyone to find ... but, if Big Brother wants us, Big Brother can easily find us. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted March 1, 2012 Author Members Posted March 1, 2012 I thought the video was hysterically funny... some people don't discriminate what they allow to be placed on their walls or on their profiles. I don't put list my personal phone numbers, my date of birth, where I'm currently living. My friends' list is only visible to friends who have mutual friends; no one can see my entire list, except for myself. I value my privacy, and I value my FRIENDS' privacy.
