Moderators LynnDel Posted March 8, 2012 Moderators Posted March 8, 2012 It has been my experience that, when crossing the border, the Canadian border-crossing interrogators are much more friendly than the Americans. And remember, it is not a good time to practice one's sense of humor. LD Quote LD

Just do the "yes, sir" or "yes, ma'am" thing and you'll be fine. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Naomi Posted March 8, 2012 Administrators Posted March 8, 2012 I think that applies to borders or check points anywhere Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Moderators LynnDel Posted March 8, 2012 Moderators Posted March 8, 2012 You're right, Naomi. We were frowned upon once when they were asking each of us where we were born. Mom & my brother said, "California," I said, "Ethiopia." We were questioned about that. My Dad said, "Congo," and the man's expression started my sister and me to giggling, so when she said, "Ethiopia," he was not pleased, and delayed us a good long while before allowing us to cross. Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2012 Administrators Posted March 8, 2012 LOL I remember one lady from church who had a hard time getting across into the U.S. because she was born in Cuba. Woody Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Yes checkpoints in foreign countries can be a challenge. I was detained at gun-point in one country - for some time. For some reason - the did not believe I was truthful. In the end though - TRUTH did prevail and I was released. As much as I like humor though. That was not the time for humor. Afterwards though I thought - "That would have been one wacky war on Woody". Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2012 Administrators Posted March 8, 2012 Wow! You saw a REAL gun? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
olger Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 1995 Coming back from Henry Ford Museum with our family and another family. American border guards. "What were you doing in Canada?" Me - four adults and four children in our Suburban. "We were spying on them, but didn't learn anything, sadly" (dry voice). Guard "WHAT????!!!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!! Me, "You sure get excited. We went to the Ford Museum!" Finally released on good behavior.... G Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Kountzer Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 We crossed the border bridge between Niagara Falls Canada & U.S. Niagara Falls/Buffalo NY., and then came back. We were staying in a motel in Toronto. As someone mentioned, the canadian border guards were friendlier. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Members phkrause Posted March 9, 2012 Members Posted March 9, 2012 Not sure I agree with friendlier border guards in Canada. One year we stopped at the border and they asked me where I was born? I said Germany, so they pulled me over and I had to wait awhile, than they let me go. Not saying they were not nice but I'd been across the border many times, and never been stopped for that. Have never been stopped at all when reentering the USofA. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 10, 2012 Administrators Posted March 10, 2012 The easiest border crossing I have experienced was entering Guatemala from Belize. We just walked across an unguarded footbridge over the river. Our adventure at being illegal aliens!! The nearby village was divided, part in Belize and part in Guatemala. The border actually ran through the middle of their soccer field. Yes, one goal in Belize, and one in Guatemala! Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

That's cool ... every game is an international game! How recently were you in Belize? Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 10, 2012 Administrators Posted March 10, 2012 It has been a few years since I was there. I have been to Belize 3 times. Our church/school youth group did mission trips there for about 4-5 years in a row. The border crossing I mentioned took place during a recon visit 5 of us took ahead of one of the trips scouting for potential projects and recreational opportunities for the kids during the scheduled day off during the mission trip. That was a fun trip of exploration! Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Administrators Naomi Posted March 10, 2012 Administrators Posted March 10, 2012 It's always fun to do a little exploration; and it adds a little more fun if you are walking on the edge, so to speak. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
