Woody Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 At what age does bullying become what we adults call 'verbal abuse'? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted March 6, 2012 Administrators Posted March 6, 2012 The words can be interchangeable, can't they? At any age? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 I would think so Gail. But that is not what I've observed. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted March 6, 2012 Members Posted March 6, 2012 I agree Gail. I believe it starts at home with the parents! Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Administrators Gail Posted March 6, 2012 Administrators Posted March 6, 2012 I would think so Gail. But that is not what I've observed. Should I let my curiosity get the better of me and bite? LOL Okay, Woody- what have you observed? I sure hope it isn't me! But if it is, Brother, go gentle on me. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

My observation has been that when the offenders are a young age that it is called bullying. At some point when the offender is older - they call it verbal abuse. While I would think they should be interchangeable as you mention - I've not observed that. The question of this thread was - at what age does the term change. CoAspen Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Most likely at waht ever age a person is considered an Adult. How ever they are not always the same. Bullying doesn't have to be verbaly abusive. It is a style/type of communication that doesn't allow others to a part of the communication, a verbal enforcement of opinion or direction. Verbal abuse is usually language not considered appropriate for the situation. A boss in the work place could be a bully without being verbally abusive. In personal relationships were abuse occurs it is a combination of both. In kids it seems the words verbal abuse should be used more often. Me thinks society is a little lax in saying what bullying really is with kids, afraid to call it verbal abuse. My thoughts and opinions.... Quote
