What is a Virtuous Woman?

Proverbs 12:4 "A virtuous woman [is] a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed [is] as rottenness in his bones."

The question is - How do people know what a virtuous woman looks like and what makes them ashamed when she is not?

What are the qualities of a virtuous woman?

One author describes it as following:

A good cook.

A good Housekeeper

A good seamstress

Know what every mistress should know.

Make good bread.

Dispense with French

Dispense with algebra

Dispense with the piano.

According to Ellen White:

“A knowledge of domestic duties is beyond price to every woman. There are families without number whose happiness is wrecked by the inefficiency of the wife and mother.” {FLB 256.5}

“Every girl should learn to take charge of the domestic affairs of home, should be a cook, a housekeeper, a seamstress. She should understand all those things which it is necessary that the mistress of a house should know.” {FLB 256.6}

“If need be, a young woman can dispense with a knowledge of French and algebra, or even of the piano; but it is indispensable that she learn to make good bread, to fashion neatly fitting garments, and to perform efficiently the many duties that pertain to homemaking.” {FLB 256.7}

But does the Bible and/or our church have other descriptions of a virtuous woman?

hmmmmmmmmmmm Well, I knew how to take care of the house and I am a darn good cook and baker, even owned my own bakery for a bit during my life. I don't know how to sew and don't wish to. I used to be able to do a complete tune-up of the cars back in the 1960s and early 1970s, could even tear down a carburator and then put it back together again. I know plenty of guys who didn't and don't know the first thing about cars. But past all of that, I also think that any man worth his salt should be able to take care of himself and be able to cook and all of that.

What are the qualities of a virtuous woman?

One that will stay up till 4 in the morning talking about increasingly bizarre things with me, one that knows that I can cook certain foods better than her, one that can think for herself and not depend on me to make her decisions for her, and one that is willing to agree with me that indeed I am going to die every time I get sick.
