Gibs Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 A New Name For Us, He a New Name For He That Overcometh ! Re 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. Re 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. The Saints will all be overcomers, “He that overcometh” is stated in eight verses in the KJV. Let us make our calling and election sure ! Gibs, you talk a lot about overcoming! I for one would like to know what an overcomer looks like and I’m not talking about Jesus. We all know he was an overcomer. I want to know what an overcomer looks like today. Does he or she use the internet or watch tv or do they hide out in the woods somewhere? Do they always say kind words…give me some specifics. I want a practical description not verses – most know the verses already. Quote
Gibs Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Gee Cheddar, An overcomer don't look no different than the run of the mill person. Yes I'm sure any of them would use the internet, not much TV though, rotten to the core. No they sure don't hide out, most are up and at witnessing for that fact, overcoming. Yes they do have kind words and you know there is really no kinder words can be spoken than the Truth. Jesus is Love and yet He is the Truth too. Yes all of these, "The Way" "The Truth" and "The Life". Well you know Jesus stated it 7 times and John 3 times so that is 10 times in the New Testament in the KJV. You know when you read those 10 verses it becomes imperative in the ole noggin that we all must be of that kind. I had had that post stored away and just got it out and pasted it here without any changes as I thought, hey, us a "new" name and He also a "new" name would be interresting to most. And yes I am guilty of pressing the overcoming issue and there is much evidence to convict me. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. cheddar Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 There’s too many christian stereotypes in that answer. Jacob was an overcomer in the bible and when he overcame that night with the angel his name was changed to Israel which means ‘to prevail or overcome’. Jacob had lots of problems, he was no poster child for good deeds but he did have one thing – he never let go of God even under the worst circumstances. We can’t all live the Ellen White dream with witnessing and working for God and doing all the right things. Some of the most spiritual people I’ve ever met did not look like it from the outside. You can't judge based on how someone appears. Apparently just watching TV is enough to put me in a bad light. Most people have more to them than what they show everyone. To verify this - just stop by an AA meeting sometime. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

But Cheddar, All things are possible with Christ in us. He then gives us His power to overcome as He did, this is our goal, obtain Christ within by full surrender and full repentance and He takes up His abode in us, we have become a temple for His Spirit. So too many Christian stereotypes, well no more when His Divine Nature is dwelling within. He within is our Hope of Glory. Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Paul and Jacob both overcomers had their names changed, even here since they had become changed and lo and behold when we are changed to immortals He gives us a new name and it will be for Paul and Jacob too, again. Cheddar, I'm glad you noticed that. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Dr. Rich Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Saul or Tarsus already had many names. He changed his own name because many knew he was an evil man killing good people. No, God never changed his name, nor did God have anything do to with him. In fact, Saul was a Hebrew name but Paul was a pagan Roman name. Rev. 3:4 points to only a few who overcome. 144k are only a 'few' of the 16 million SDA members. Those who overcome are the 144k and they have NO lie in thier mouths for they are blameless. (Rev. 14:5) Therefore, by necessity, they will NOT believe what the Majority of the SDA members now believe. They will also be the ones (only ones) who fully understand the end time propheies as they have special insight. (Dan. 12:10) They will shine as they will now be spiritiual beings. (Dan. 12:3) Quote
Gibs Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Dr. Rich, Your entiltled as they say to your low opinion of Paul. I am also entitled to believe Paul was converted and used well of God. He reveals so many points so clearly that none else did so well that many understand from his explanations better. I see with your view of things you must trash Paul. Well I would say be careful, it's a dire thing to denounce a man of God. It behooves us all to make sure of what we try to lead others to believe. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
