M. T. Cross Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 For the one with ears to hear, this Vai track gets closer to my own personal spiritual beliefs... Mine to Bravus, and it is a stunningly beautiful peace of music. Have you ever seen the actual video he shot for it? Quote
BobRyan Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 I would argue that Gilliand's subject is closer to the little green man - subject of this thread than VAI - but it is entirely possible that you guys know something about Vai's connection to this subject that I do not. Please share whatever information you have in that regard. (Or possibly you think you already are sharing his connection with the subject - if so, I missed it) The more I see of it - the more I suspect you are trying to make a point about his connection to the subject. Still I think you need to work a bit more on the case for it - because I keep missing it. Maybe if you could do as I did - come up with a public news clip connecting Vai to the "little green man" subject - as I did with Gilliand. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." I saw your thread title and the first thing that popped to mind was Vai's Little Green Men song so I posted it as a joke. That said Steve Vai is/was very very much into the idea of alien existance. I will see if I can find some articles or video about it if you would like. But, just like sometimes a song is just a song, and a sig is just a sig.......... sometimes a joke is just a joke. Quote
BobRyan Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 Ok then - a song to go with that News clip. All in good fun my friend. doug yowell Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Ok then - a song to go with that News clip. All in good fun. Woke up this morning with light in my eyes, and then realized it was still dark outside. There was a light coming down from the sky and I don't know who or why? Must be those strangers that come every night, with saucer shaped lights and people up-tight.Beneath blue green footprints that glow in the dark....I hope they get home all right. Quote
Guest Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 What about the Bigfoot we have living in these woods here? It's gettin so you can't even put your garbage outside, because Bigfoot will get it. He makes a mess, and then doesn't clean up after himself. Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted March 17, 2012 Moderators Posted March 17, 2012 For some of us, that's how our minds work: for me, there's a mental association to a song in the back of my mind for almost any topic. In one of my Facebook discussion groups, which is a bit lighter and more fun than here, I tend to post the links, as EmptyCross did here. Not to derail the discussion, and definitely not to add a substantive point or an argument, just to soundtrack it, and because it's fun. Part of the problem, IMO, with discussions here is that they tend to be too serious, largely because people tend to be trying to 'win', or persuade others to their point of view. A more nebulous, allusive, musical style can be fun too... Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted March 17, 2012 Moderators Posted March 17, 2012 To return to the original video, though, my more substantive comments would be: 1. As I already noted, very convenient for this guy, who is renting camping sites and selling supplies in those woods, that that's where the aliens decided to hang out. Do the aliens get a cut? To be more blunt, that guy strikes me as a fraud, and Fox News has helped him out by publicising his claims - they're not being fraudulent, they're just pandering to what people are interested in and want to see. But that guy is preying on the gullible... or else has managed to delude himself into something that coincides with his financial interests. 2. The broader issue about the increasing prevalence of talk about aliens in the media is a good one, although I'd say it tends to fluctuate based on the movies of the day and a few other factors like whether there is a war capturing the public attention. Since the 60s there have been science fiction movies. Not old enough to remember the title, but one ended with 'watch the skies!' Certainly 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind', in the early 80s, was almost a spoof of public attention to aliens, while at the same time fanning it, and so on. So I guess to me I'm not sure if it's specifically increasing right now in unprecedented ways. 3. Some have the consipracy theory (which, remember, was the title of the initial video segment, not something I'm bringing out of nowhere) perspective that these 'sightings' and the related publicity are a plot to set up the public for Satan appearing in the guise of an alien. Personally I don't buy that, but it's an intriguing possibility. Perhaps that's what the Bible meant by 'angel of light', but my guess is it meant 'angel of light'. 4. From a scientific point of view, aliens are going to be much more alien. If they ever make contact and they're some variant of a human shape (little green men or greys) I'll be very suspicious, because another planet is massively unlikely to be similar enough to ours that a humanoid form and, e.g., the ability to breathe our atmosphere in comfort would be well adapted to life. Aliens are much more likely to be alien to us in form, and even more so in motivation. 5. As I briefly noted earlier, it's a very big universe. The barriers to interstellar travel are immense. The chances of anything coming from Mars may be a million to one ('nother musical reference, link soon), but the chances of anything coming from another solar system - which has to be at least tens of lightyears away - are vanishingly tiny for reasons of fuel and time. And if they did, they're not going to just buzz some campsite, probe a few people, mutilate some cows and go home again... Quote Truth is important
M. T. Cross Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Interstellar may have huge barriers, but what about interplanar travel. Alternate universes and all.... Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted March 17, 2012 Moderators Posted March 17, 2012 As far as we know so far (and yeah, still vanishingly tiny in the face of the universe) the only way to travel between universes destroys the universe you leave when you leave it. I mean, I know we're pretty profligate with how we use up our fossils fuels, but that does seem just a tad extravagant... Quote Truth is important
