Matthew 6:

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Interesting that you should post that Bravus. I'll tell you a little story that happen to me. My wife and I with my grandson went out to eat at a "Sweet Tomato" here in Florida. We got our food and than sat down at a table, and we thank God for the food as we usually do before we eat. Well when I got done this lady sitting at a table just next to ours, turned to me and my wife and said "Thank you," and I said back to her, for what? She said for thanking God for your food and being such a good example to our grandson. I think what Jesus was talking about and showing or pointing out was the boasting that some do when they pray that way. Because we do know that Daniel prayed three times a day where all could see him. I'm pretty sure he wasn't praying like what Jesus pointed out to his disciples.

I think that Tim Tebow is a young man who loves God, and is not ashamed of the Gospel. Who knows how many kids were inspired by the character and grace he always displayed.

I think Tebow is a young man that recognizes a great gimmick when he sees one. But I am a cynic.

Tebow is praying that the Jets don't choke like last year. LOL

I'm sure that he loves God. But that was kinda my point: if you love God, then wouldn't you do what Jesus said? He couldn't have been much more categorical about it.

But when you love God and something good happens, you want to praise HIM and you don't care who's around.

Bravus,

I guess I view the context of Jesus' teaching in these passages, more to the idea of religiosity and hypocrisy exhibited by the Pharisees. Doing something for the approval of men, rather than pleasing to God. Obviously, only God knows Tebow's heart...but, to me, he comes across as sincere and wanting to bring honor to God.

As to Tebow going to the Jets...didn't see that coming!

Pray unceasingly...; no matter where you're at, follows.

Some confess Jesus Christ in closets, and I guess there is that; however, others desire to confess the name of Jesus Christ before men (and a stadium filled with 70-100,000 people defines "before men"). Others in church pews, others by a given smile, etc.

However they do so, they do according to Jesus Christ's words, leaving the thought that Jesus Christ was making a comparative statement; ipso facto, rather than do as these Pharisees...

Too many too timid, nowadays. You go Tebow!--but to the Jets as mebbe, a third-stringer? I smell a Jesuit in the deal. Better you should have gone to Canada?--unless..., how much they payin' ya?
