M. T. Cross Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 In the next 9 months ( actually starting Feb 19th ) I will handle close to 100k trees. Thats a pretty good sized forest, yet I just see trees and not a forest. Wonder if there is some deep meaning in that somewhere. Quote

M. T. Cross Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 I think the answer is in those pictures. I took them so I could remind myself of the beauty. Most the time I just see those in terms of branching, hight and trunk caliper. In other words sales. I can tell you this though, last year for the first time I started taking my lunch breaks ( we get 2 half hour breaks) on my tree farm instead of going into the main yard. Just sitting under those trees. It is so peacefull. In the autumn under the maples is stunning. Quote
Members phkrause Posted March 28, 2012 Members Posted March 28, 2012 EC, when I look at those pictures I can only imagine what things would've looked like had sin not entered this earth. Its still beautiful despite sin. It also makes me wonder what it will be like in the earth made new. M. T. Cross Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 It truly is beautiful PK, when you are not looking at them as product. Where I work has about 40 acres of shrub farm and then 3 seperate tree farms. I run one of the tree farms and co manage one of the other ones. They are the most quiet and peacefull part of the place and I am blessed to be able to work on one of them with a crew of guys I love like family. Quote

olger Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 What will they do with those trees? Sell them? Cut them down for lumber? 100k is a lot of holes. Hydraulics? rejoice always, g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
M. T. Cross Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 They are sold for landscaping and we grow a large number of fruit trees for orchards. One of our biggest sellers is Swedish Aspens that are used in the prairies as wind barriers on wheat farms. No hydraulics, manual lifting all the way. We calculated out how much each guy on the tree farm lifts every day and it worked out to 5 to 15 thousand pounds over the course of the day. Quote
