SivartM Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Inspired by my trip to the Adventist Heritage Village in Battle Creek today, who are some of your favorite Adventist pioneers, and why? And no fair just answering "Ellen White". One of the lecturers in the church service we had at the Village told us something about Uriah Smith I had never heard before. He had a falling out with Ellen White in 1883 or so because she wrote a letter of correction and he felt that she didn't understand the situation. This was one reason why he was so upset about the 1888 events. But one night, Ellen couldn't sleep, and she wrote him a 30-page letter that got through to him and touched him so deeply that he knew that she was right, and he not only apologized to her but he publicly read the letter in an apology to all that he had hurt with his actions, and even cried, which he was not at all known to do. After that he was a much humbler person. I hadn't known the context of his 1888 attitude, which was what I mainly knew him by, so this story made me like him a lot more, especially when I learned that Uriah Smith went on to be demoted to assistant editor of the Review... under A.T. Woody Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 And yes - the Adventist Heritage Village is very inspiring. Did you check out the statue of Sojourney Truth while you were there? SivartM Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 We weren't able to see the statue, but we did go to the cemetery and see where she was buried, and our tour guide talked about her for a few minutes. Dr. Rich Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Did you see the oblisk on her husbands grave? Also, U. Smith was one of my heros as an orginial Adventist as he was one of them who warned about becoming organized as the Catholics were. Quote

Yes, I did see the obelisk in the middle of the family grave site, but it wasn't on his grave.
