I don't think he will. I think Romney is completely prepared to take Obama on over this issue. Remember that Romneycare was born in the conservative think tank of the Heritage Foundation. When Romney signed Romneycare, it was the conservative's answer to the healthcare crisis. Obama only decided to use it as a model when he was unable to get enough support for a single-payer system.

I tend to agree with you on this. Obama did want a single-payer system, but the republican party, at that time, or maybe because Obama wanted it, were not interested. which seems odd because from what I've been reading they are now interested in one. Anyway from living in Mass for 38 years before moving down here to Florida, where HC really is awful compared to Mass, when Romney introduced this I saw HC getting better and better, it wasn't perfect as nothing here on planet earth will ever be, but it did have many good things about it. Things take time to work themselves out. And certain parts just need to be corrected instead of just thrown out.

The individual mandate is what is just too hard to swallow. I agree with requiring all employers to provide health-care insurance but for those that fall through the cracks, they should have just expanded medicare and charged them for it when they file their taxes. So basically the law would state the everyone has to buy into medicare (just like we have to buy into Social Security). However those who have have health-care coverage from an employer or otherwise purchased would be exempt. Each year when a person does their income tax, they would have to provide proof of insurance or pay the premium for medicare. Medicare would automatically be provided to those collecting unemployment and would be paid for by increasing the payroll tax that funds unemployment. That way everyone in the country would have health-care insurance, if not private - medicare.
