Dr. Rich Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Actually, I drink water most of the time. I am really not a juce person or go for anything sweet. A hot tomato juice drink or V8 in the morning is ok, but real wine is not for me, neither is beer as I am somehow allergic to hops or barly. I very seldom have pop (soda for you youngens) and glad my parents never purchased it for us to drink. Quote
SivartM Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Grape juice has a lot of sugar, so water is better for regular drinking, but it does have vitamin C, potassium, and the flavonoids that provide wine's health benefits, except without the alcohol so that you don't get the negative effects of wine. Considering they probably didn't yet understand the processes behind fermentation yet, I'm guessing they weren't too worried about the technical definition and more focused on the alcohol levels. CoAspen Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 For those that still don't know the difference......if the grape juice is un-fermented, it is grape juice. If the juice is fermented, it becomes wine, no longer grape juice. Really very simple!!! Just go to a local winery for a visit and learn all about the process, very interesting. Quote

Could it be that what they meant by unfermented wine was really fermented wine but with the alcohol taken out? Some of my old prison buddys made 'pruno' out of just about any fruit. All they did was allow it to ferment in some way and it thereby became an alcoholic drink. I tasted it once and thought it tasted like gas. I will stick with water or juice. But I will not make fun of those who do drink in moderation, nor do I see it as a sin. Quote

There are such products, but a small amount of alcohol is left behind. Wine is not so much about the alcohol, but more about the type of grapes, sugar content, mixtures, etc. Soil, weather also contribute to the flavors along with the type of wood or container it is allowed to age/ferment in. Thats the limit of my knowledge, not to belabor the point! Quote
