Members phkrause Posted April 30, 2012 Members Posted April 30, 2012 Are you asking because you really want to know? or because you know? and want others to react in a certain way? 9:29 Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low. Do you have an idea of what this means? If you do can you explain it for us? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

dialoguewithus Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Here's the gist of the explanation from my Quran (Ali Unal, 2006, Turkey): The Jews and Christians should have accepted Mohammed as a prophet and followed his teachings. When they didn't, and collaborating with the polytheists, were hostile towards Islam, the Moslems could fight against them and subdue them. Once subdued, they should accord them all civic rights, incl. protection of life, wealth, reproduction, mental & bodily health, and religious freedom. They were to pay a tax, but not the one the Moslems pay. And the People of the Book were exempt from military service. Quote

If other information that has been put on satellite TV, by a Muslim converted to being a follower of Christ, is any indication, someone seems to be whitewashing the reality of the meaning of that text, at least from the original printing. Does this below shed any light? This is not the convert who gave an entirely different picture. Since following Christ means adhering to Truth I would suppose that person would be the one to be believed. http://www.3angelstube.com/video/1377/Kamal-Saleem-A-Terrorists-Encounter-with-Jesus God blesses! dialoguewithus Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 It's sort of like the verses on things like dashing children against the rocks in the Bible; some proponents and many opponents of any particular religion latch onto such texts to justify a certain mindset, but we need to steer clear of equating AlQaeda with Islam or the Lord's Resistance Army with Christianity. Many observing Jews will also warn against equating the brutality of the Israeli government's occupation with Judaism; that's why many observing Jews are anti-Zionists. Quote

While the true soldiers of the cross will enter the kingdom together, we are saved as individuals. When Peter(I think) was told by Jesus that he who lives by the sword will die by the sword, he was not excluded from heaven. Even as the apostle Paul could have been at one time considered a terrorist but was at last used of the Lord to be more instrumental in spreading the gospel than any other new testament Christian. "We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 Quote: Are you asking because you really want to know? or because you know? and want others to react in a certain way? Since, I haven't been able to see the text in an earlier English language edition and there seems to be divided opinion about the direction of the thrust of the message, I'm content to believe those who are putting their life on the line as a converted person, from Islam, to accept their understanding. And the choice to blow one's self up no matter how many innocent persons might be involved, leads me to the conclusion the soft-pedaled description of that text is not telling the whole truth. It is one thing to give one's life for one's self. It is entirely another to give one's life for another, even your enemy. "There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:13 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

John 15:13 NLT God blesses! I most definitely agree with your post of John 15:13. What I guess I'm not understanding now is, if you never read this verse in english than why did you post it. I'm also guessing you've never read it in Arabic either? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

What I guess I'm not understanding now is, if you never read this verse in english than why did you post it. I'm also guessing you've never read it in Arabic either? I posted it with the intention of finding out what agreement there was between the testimony of the Christian convert from Islam, about that particular text, which they voiced the number of the text without reading it. The year of the edition which has been given, if correct to earlier publications, does not seem to have the explicit suggestion of pursuing the death of Christians and Jews. Are there editions printed specifically for the western cultures' eyes, different than the editions for eastern instruction in what Allah asks of his followers? Or are we looking at only radical thinking of those who pursue the same principles as nazi Germany followed in the final solution at the time of WW11? God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
