It really is cool, providing housing and job skills as well as life skills. The clients are allowed to remain well past the 2 or 3-month time allotment many recovery places provide as the program length runs on an average 30 months. Her job is to develop the women's program. Prior to this the organization didn't have one. So far, they have purchased a women's residence and have 3 clients enrolled. Administrators Gail Posted May 3, 2012 Author Administrators Posted May 3, 2012 The founder of the place is a Mormon, but he liked Rikki's stance on observing the Sabbath and that helped her get the job. She can be on call for crisis but otherwise can keep her Sabbath hours sacred. The clients all are given jobs working in the Costco-like facility. I was impressed with the quality of inventory (nice furniture!). The clients graduate with real job experience and as Rikki told me, the person who is working with the butcher walks out with a real apprenticeship. So they are armed with skills to get jobs. I sounds as though the founder really did some serious research on what these people need during recovery; and on helping them to stay addition free. PTL At the Open House we attended last night, the staff teared up one by one as they told of the rewards they get by being there. One woman is there EVERY night of the year, 365 days, providing drop-in services to the ones on the street, giving them hugs and an open ear plus clothing or materials they need. And she loves it! Many of the folks there last night are or were successful business people, but they say that doing THIS work is more fulfilling than all their years of success in business. The key to the program's success is that they are able to keep the clients well beyond the detox stage to teach them how to live. One important element is teaching them how to bear examination by peers and staff in a safe, friendly way in preparation to bearing bigger trials so that they don't revert back to the easy step of using drugs to get over pain. I have a niece that went through rehab and than went to college to become a social worker and now works for the government and has setup a drug recovery program for them.
