Members phkrause Posted May 6, 2012 Members Posted May 6, 2012 That's sad GoLions. I've had to put down 2 dogs and it was really sad. One dog was a Belgium Shepherd, he was about 10 or so and he had a spinal problem. The second dog was run over by a motorist who just kept driving, he was only 5 or 6 years old. The last and 3rd dog got lymes diease, we went through a 10 week regime of shots and pills and thought he was OK but than he started to get really agressive with people. They think it affected his brain. He was also about 5/6 years old when we put him down. Its like losing family members. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Oh I can't imagine the pain. My sympathies to the family. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Overaged Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Thats something that does hurt a lot. I recently had to put a dog down, we really liked him, but he was 14 years old and had cancer. We had no choice, given the symptoms. Here is a pic of the old boy - Tucker, during his last few days. Poor little fellow even looks like he was in pain. GoLions, do you have a pic of your dog? I would love to see one! Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." GoLions Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 About 6 months ago, we noticed he was loosing weight. My sister in law always called him a watermelon. We were all kind of watching our food intake. We just thought he was joining us. Then his eyes started to turn red. Then he started to loose his eyesight. At one point we took him to the vet and he had about 50% eyesight left. 3 weeks later he was down to 10%. He was put on steroids, and went down hill quickly. Took him back to the vet, and he said that he was probably loaded with cancer. We had one hope left...increase the steroids, it didn't work. Last weekend we had our daughter, who is at a boarding school say her good byes. Today, he wouldn't take his medicine. He completely gave up on eating for 2 days. Friday, he threw up out side and collapsed. We decided to put him down tomorrow, but he wouldn't make it until then. He is berried outside the picture window he would always look out. Sorry for the scattered brain response, just don't have it in me to be coherent. Quote
Stan Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I understand.. How long did you have him? Losing a best friend, is really really tough. Am thankful he had you to love him over the years. GoLions Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 He was a Beagle, that lived on 7+ acres, but never chased rabbits, chipmunks scared him but deers were afraid of him. He never went outside the natural boundaries, stayed close to home. Would often bark to come in, even when we were all outside. Always had to be touching someone. Never mean or angry, didn't play with his dog toys, didn't like it when we put his treat in one of those brain teasers for dogs. He loved to open presents, but waited for the OK. That was always fun to watch. He thought all the gifts for Christmas were for him...birthday's too. Just a great great family dog. He didn't make it to his 9th birthday. We got him from the humane society. Her truly was a one of a kind. Quote

Woody Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Can't say much GoLions as my Beagle looks just like yours. It really hits home. Don't know what I would do if I lost mine. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators Gerr Posted May 7, 2012 Moderators Posted May 7, 2012 I understand how you feel. I lost my 2 dogs about 4 years ago now. I cried for several days, especially for the one I did not have a chance to say good bye. I got them both on the same day as pupies. One was a golden retriever and the other a rottweiler/black lab mix. They were just very loving dogs. The golden retriever went first with kidney failure. He was twelve. The other went a year later. I had him put down because he was having just long bouts with seizures. He was 13. I still miss them. Quote
