Obama and gay marriage

Obama, just changed his mind on gay marriage. Here's a portion of a recent interview:

“This is something that, you know, we’ve (Obama and his wife) talked about over the years and she, you know, she feels the same way, she feels the same way that I do. And that is that, in the end the values that I care most deeply about and she cares most deeply about is how we treat other people and, you know, I, you know, we are both practicing Christians and obviously this position may be considered to put us at odds with the views of others but, you know, when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it’s also the Golden Rule, you know, treat others the way you would want to be treated. And I think that’s what we try to impart to our kids and that’s what motivates me as president and I figure the most consistent I can be in being true to those precepts, the better I’ll be as a as a dad and a husband and hopefully the better I’ll be as president.”

I'm considering not voting for him again. This is crossing the line. Marriage is between a man & a woman, period! Don't try to redefine it Obama.

1 Cor 6:9 Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Keep in mind Paul isn't writing of perfection, rather he is speaking of condoning these sins - i.e., living them as a legitimate way of life.

This is certainly a position Obama didn't want to take but was forced to by big-mouth Biden. He has nothing to gain and only votes to lose by taking this position. No one is going to vote for him now, because he supports gay marriage, that wasn't going to vote for him before. However some will not vote for him now, because he supports gay marriage, that were undecided about him before. I don't know if the number of votes he will lose because of this will be significant but it is certainly something he didn't want to gamble with. Biden is to blame.

He has nothing to gain and only votes to lose by taking this position. No one is going to vote for him now, because he supports gay marriage, that wasn't going to vote for him before. However some will not vote for him now, because he supports gay marriage, that were undecided about him before.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think he'll lose any more people: those who dislike him dislike him a lot, and had already decided. He may well pick up votes from those on the left who are very disappointed with his performance on freedom, war and other issues but passionate about this issue: lack of turnout and enthusiasm is his biggest threat in this election.

The other thing is, while I'm sure political calculation comes into it, sometimes something is just the right thing to do. I hope we're not to cynical to believe that leaders sometimes consult fairness in making their decisions.

I don't think he's trying to redefine marriage. The democratic party has been for gay rights for quite some time, its not much of a stretch to get behind gay marriage. But like most Christians, he's probably not read his Bible much. All I can say is, its a very sad day indeed. I think its one thing to treat others like you'd like them to treat you! Allowing gay marriage has nothing to do with how you treat others, at least not to me.

I don't believe that for one minute. Just because one person says his opinion about something doesn't mean you have to agree. If I'm not mistaken Bush and Chaney had some disagreements and that never made Bush change his mind on that topic.

This doesn't have anything to do with fairness.

Why can't I have two husbands?Doesn't harm anyone else as long as all are wiling.My husband should be able to have 3 wives if he chooses,who does it hurt.

If someone wants to marry their brother,what does it hurt you?

If it is the question of impaired offspring,let them be sterilized prior to marriage,what do you care.It is only fair that you can marry whoever you wish.

Indeed, the polls do show that the enthusiasm factor is much greater among conservatives than liberals. But that still won't get any person changing their mind for Obama because of this issue. It simply *may* help motivate some folks to go out and vote that would have stayed home. But I think that is even a small percentage. Even though half of Americans agree with gay marriage, very few of them are passionate about it. The independents are the ones that will decide this election and those are the ones Obama is most likely to lose because of this issue. Independents that favor gay marriage tend not to be too passionate about it so it isn't an issue that will help Obama win their votes.
