And a Little Child Shall Lead Them...

She was only five years old. We met in the hallway. Looking up at me with big brown eyes she said, "Pastor Ann, I want to pray for you?"

I've never had a five-year-old request to pray for me before. So I accepted expecting the typical sweet prayer of a young child. She asked that we kneel, so we did right there in the middle of the hallway. We closed our eyes, then I felt a hand on my head. Peeking a bit, I saw she had laid her hand on my head as she began to pray.

She said, "Dear God, please bless Pastor Ann today. Help her tell other kids about Jesus. Help her be strong in your power..."

I cannot quite remember the rest of her prayer because I was trying to hold back from collapsing in full-blown sobs.

How did this child know what I needed that day? How did she know that I was feeling discouraged and weak? How did she know I needed encouragement so badly just at that moment?

"Encourage one another daily," we are told in Hebrews 3:13. That's the nature of the Body of Christ. We are to reach out to encourage, pray for, and support one another. It's easy enough that a five year old can do it. Perhaps that's why Jesus said we need to become like children again.

Awesome!

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

You mean to tell me that pastors peek? I always thought that was kinda like cheating and that the prayer nullified.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

More serious than the peek, there are some that would try to nullify the prayer and the blessing administered because it was a female child and it was the blessing of laying on of hands to a female pastor... Poor child didn't know any better that such a thing was not acceptable.

Like I said - A little child shall lead them...

And Jesus said, "Unless you become as a little child..."

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

When I first read the story I could only think how would a child know to do that? An obvious answer though! A sacred moment when saying "God was present" would not be a sounding of words!
