Adventist Sunday School Classes Are Coming

Soon, Adventists will be keeping Sunday. And holding Sunday School Classes.

What should we do to prepare for this?

Adventists were originally Sunday keepers and several Sunday keeping Adventist groups remain to this day or are you trying to say Seventh-day Adventists are going to give up Saturday in which case they wouldn't be Seventh-day Adventists or are you saying the GC is going to do this officially? What exactly are you saying?

Not sure exactly what you might be referring to but I think it is too late already because there are some Adventist churches in the USA that have been keeping Sunday for years.

Some of these "Seventh-day Adventist" churches have now abandoned the Sabbath and also Adventism totally after running both Sabbath and Sunday services to pull in the "un-churched" in their communities. This abandonment result was part of the fruit of the "Willow Creek" Mega Church approach and "Home Depot" Adventist Mega Church Movement that swept through Adventism a few years ago.

"Adventist Sunday Church" was the name emblazoned on the headline of the February 2000 issue of the Pacific Union Recorder. The lead article was all about a new Adventist congregation in Las Vegas, Nevada. Church leaders were proud of their accomplishment and wanted the more than 200,000 Adventists in the Union to know about it.

Was this Pacific Union Recorder article talking about a church service or an evangelistic effort? The article said it was merely an evangelistic effort. But five facts loudly declared it to be a new type of Sunday morning worship service:

• First, in the bold title, the Recorder called it an "Adventist Sunday Church."

• Second, the subtitle stated "Reaching the Unchurched in Las Vegas"; that is, providing a church for the unchurched.

• Third, the name of the congregation (which is still in operation) had a churchy name: "Higher Ground Community Church";-so prospective visitors would think it was a non-denominational community church. When they walked in the door, that is what they were given-a church service, but more exciting than most.

• Fourth, the advertising flyers, mailed out by the thousands, referred to it as a church. "Is this your idea of church?" "It's for people who have given up on the traditional church."

• Fifth, it was an ongoing church service, Sunday morning after Sunday morning, month after month. It did not just continue for a few weeks, as evangelistic efforts do. Those Sunday worship services continue to be held today.

The Recorder article said that Adventists are inviting non-Adventists to attend their "Sunday services." Amazing. Do our leaders really think it is possible to use Sunday worship services to teach the necessity of Sabbath worship services?

And why not?

I see nothing wrong with studying scriptures on Sunday.

As a matter of fact - most of the evangelisic series I've attended have included Sundays. Whether the topic of the Sabbath came up on a Sunday - I don't recall but for sure don't feel it would make any difference.

I'd like to know if any of the unchurched or anyone they pulled into the Sunday Adventist Church have become Sabbath keepers. Or did the Adventists who started the Sunday services stop Sabbath services?

There is a church in Loma Linda doing the same thing but from the other side. It's the largest church in the city. It is not Adventist but it does have services on both Saturday and Sunday.

I don't have a problem with Adventists keeping Sunday, since the commandment says "...six days shalt thou labor..." Sadly,many Adventists today already keep Sunday on the 7th day.

There's a church here that calls themselves a seventh day adventist church, but they have services on sunday. At least they were. I've never been to this church. I know about them from their facebook page.

The thing that caught my attention was on FB they would always advertise and play videos of their sunday services, but never their sabbath services. That seems odd to me.

Yes, Catholic's have an obligation to attend on holy days...

Given that more and more people abstain from Church of course not....

No, they had regular services on sabbath. Then they had a special Sunday service. I think they even streamed it live.

I went by their facebook page, and I don't see any mention of the sunday services. So maybe they have stopped sunday worship services.

God commands His people to have "an holy convocation" on the seventh day (Lev. 23:3). Church seems to be the easiest way to have the convocation, because I've never been able to work up a group of any size myself.

LOL, the responses here in this topic are getting more interesting each day. I did have a special reason for opening this thread. So far, no one has really touched base with it - yet.

I am not yet ready to say a lot about it; except that I am going to wait till it's Sunday to say more. (did I say which Sunday?).
